• UNM Daily Lobo details how Governor Martinez and political advisor Jay McCleskey had a secret pipeline into UNM presidential search meetings--GOP lobbyist Pat Rogers. Wasn't he also somehow involved in the fairgrounds casino deal?
• Old Town's Candy Lady, once famous for her chocolate penises, tries something new: "meth candy."
• State Senator (and top-notch policy wonk) Tim Keller from SE Albuquerque is drafting legislation to fix the New Mexico Finance Authority.
• Los Lunas prison guard arrested twice this weekend: total of 7 different charges in two different cities. Looks like the first arrest on Friday got him so depressed he got really really drunk on Sunday.
• Lapel camera shows ABQ police wreaking havoc with more than one "suspect." Sparks renewed calls for an independent investigation. DOJ already in touch with APD.
• Two ABQ chefs trying to raise dough for sausage business. Here's the link.
Comment by Izquierdo on August 21, 2012 at 9:10am My word! There are enough belly laughs in your synopsis to last the day. I won't have to read the links. Is everybody a bad ass in New Mexico? Or merely disfunctional? Still this is my favorite state.
Comment by once banned twice shy on August 21, 2012 at 10:43am So, just curious. Will the Candy Lady next be offering "opium" bon-bons? How about fake hypodermic needles filled with "sweet black heroin" you could "shoot" into your mouth? Or wait, how about a little fake crack pipe with rock "crack" candy you can put in it and smoke? No, no, I know--how about Pixie Stix filled with candy "cocaine!" Come on. That would be FUNNY!!!
Comment by hettie on August 21, 2012 at 5:46pm Now the x-rated offerings from Candy Lady seem downright tame.
I love that Breaking Bad went to a local candy shop to buy all the "meth" they use in the show--they could have easily bought it elsewhere (and possibly for less). In a lot of ways, this is her product through and through and I don't see the issue. She's not supporting drug use--she's cashing in on a popular television show that is shot in our city during tourism season. The article even said that she got flack years ago for her erotic candy and now it's famous.
