Morning Fix: Ujima - Collective Work and Reponsibility

  • Local luthier dies - rest in peace Lorenzo Pimentel, maker of magnificent guitars and beautiful music.
  • The Daily Beast chronicles the story of E.J. Montoya, a student at Albuquerque's Native American Community Academy. NACA creates community (and ujima) for all students, even those with struggles at home.
  • Will the fire marshall really close down The Pit?
  • Do people really eat gingerbread houses? Better not nibble if yours is from Whole Foods.
  • Coco posts on predatory addiction machines and unicorn sales - coming soon to Albuquerque.
  • Albuquerque author Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez takes on the made-for-TeeVee script of her novel The Dirty Girls Social Club as racist Afro-dectomy (among other things).
  • Today is the third day of Kwanzaa. Join me in recognizing the principle of ujima by thanking all the volunteers who make Duke City Fix and so many other Albuquerque community endeavors possible!

indeed THANK YOU DCFers!  from the volunteer Morning Fixers to the regular blog posters and commenters who make this a vibrant online community...  that often spills over into the actual physical community. I dig this place!

and ew. eating a gingerbread house ...   can't help but recall making those things as a kid, and lord knows where our hands had been before we frosted candy to the roof!

Muchos gracias Barelas Babe. Your frequent posts are one of my reasons for hanging out here on DCF.

RIP Sr. Pimentel.

Dear Babe,

I got in trouble today with my other half because I had to read EVERY SINGLE LINK you posted. Phenomenal morning fix indeed.

Yours in near-sighted squinting at the screen,

Coco

Just a note here to apologize for misspelling Sr. Pimentel's last name - it has been corrected thanks to Ron da Bomb's sharp eyes.

But you get bonus points for the word luthier.

Whole Foods tossed out Wild Oats charm and care when it merged with it. I knew they weren't too smart when they kept the name Whole Foods and tossed Wild Oats into the compost pile.
