Morning Fix--Christmas Eve Eve Edition

I got a really great email yesterday from the University of New Mexico, which began... Cara, It is my pleasure to congratulate you as the winner of the UNM nomination for the Truman Scholarship. The selection committee found your achievements exemplary, and we are very happy to name you as a UNM nominee...
Wow! I am so excited. For more info on the Truman Scholarship go to www.truman.gov. It is a really a big deal, and I am humbled to be able to compete for it!

Yesterday I suffered from Cookie Fail. It turned out that I had little in the way of ingredients beyond the 9 lbs of chocolate chips, so we are trying again today. It's funny what the combination of motherhood and studenthood have done to my brain.

On to the haps!

How about this weather???

This is a crazy story, a local man is being blamed by the FBI for a series of bank robberies, and it appears that he has a pretty good alibi.

You know I normally fall on the side of openness and honesty, and disclosing what is done in government, but this makes me uncomfortable...perhaps it is just the whole "being married to a state employee" thing...but I get a little ickified when I think about this...
(yeah I expect some unhappy comments about this, but I am prepared. :) )

Yay! Senator Tom Udall, who introduced a national interlock bill to prevent drunk drivers from getting out there and repeat offending...Tom ALWAYS makes The Nice List.

It feels like a snow news day...let's hope we have a quiet and happy week...I am starting my sauce today for our traditional Christmas Lasagna, and will attack the cookie plan once again.

What are your plans for Christmas?

Sorry peeps, for some reason my fingers didn't work on the featuring, so the Fix was tardy to the front page...

Good point Oliver. I need my BFF from NY to help me make them.
Thanks Cathyray, I am hard working, I won't deny it...but I am happy!

I will have to post pictures of the lasagna...good points on the pension, I know it is public money, but I know state employees work hard for their salaries, especially now with the hiring freeze, and now furloughs. I also think that we shouldn't be angry with government employees receiving pensions, we should be mad at the rat bastard corporatists who stopped offering pensions back in the Reagan days.

Yeah this is why I only make it at Christmas, it probably costs $200 just to make it, but once a year...my dad taught me how when I was a kid, and I always want to make it in his memory.

Ufa! Thanks, Jeff. Now you've got my mouth watering! I may be a vegetarian, but I can still relive the experience in my head. Mortadella? Madonna mia! Extravagant!

Good luck on the Truman - what an honor to be nominated!

And I totally understand Cookie Fail - I was all set to make gingerbread cookies when I realized that I had purchased everything except the ground ginger...

Tom Udall is a little too nice sometimes; one of his first acts after assuming office was to plea on behalf of Joe Lieberman for forgiveness and to allow him to keep his committee seats.
