As I write this is it about 3:15 in the morning and I have not gone to bed yet, but I did celebrate the new year in the company of friends, indulging in champagne at midnight and some fan-friggin-tastic ritualistic shots of brandy with sugar and coffee coated limes (it was pretty fun) and giving the kids sparkling cider and letting them crash wherever they fell. Scanning the news channels is pretty uneventful this morning.
However, KRQE did have an interesting "Year in Review"which brought to mind the fact that while many people were mourning the loss of the King of Pop, we had our own King to mourn this year: good ole Bruce. He was one of the truly sweetest men I ever met in my life.
Bar patrons taxed the Albuquerque taxi fleets.
Bank robberies, despite this week's activities, were down in 2008.
I am going to put this post to bed, and myself, and I wish you all the happiest of New Years.

You're going to have to explain that one to me, because no matter how I break it down it sounds horrible.

It sounds horrible, but it really was quite amazingly good. The limes are sliced into wedges, one side is coated in ground dark coffee, the other side in sugar. You bite the lime wedge, shoot the brandy, shake your head to mix, and swallow. It is really tasty. Then you lick your fingers. The lime brings out the bright flavors in the coffee, I never thought I would like the combination, but it was marvelous.

That's just bizarre. You so crazy.

Who thought of eating that in the first place? (I often think of this about the first caveman to eat a lobster, too).

ahahahahahaa Oliver, you know that thought drives me crazy. What were they thinking? They sure don't look edible at all on the outside, especially when they are moving around, all feisty and shit. And yet, these shots, like the lobster, are amazingly delicious and fun. Here is the thing though, I went to bed at 430 am sober as a judge (I could still say the alphabet backwards really fast) and woke up almost completely unable to walk.
