NM Tea Company now serving tea and food

I love the New Mexico Tea Company for many things; for its fabulous selection of tea and tea accessories, for its knowledgeable owner David Edwards (I haven't met his business partner but I'm sure she knows her stuff, too), and for the smell when I walk through the door. The smell was always a promise of things to come later since NM Tea Co didn't serve tea on the premises. Well they recently decided to change that, got the license they needed to serve food, and transformed the tiny back patio into a very sweet area that fits three tables for enjoying tea and a light menu, they call it the New Mexico Tea Bar. Here is an excerpt from their email newsletter this month describing the offerings:

'The Tea Bar now serves fresh brewed whole leaf tea, scones with clotted cream and boysenberry jam, and muffins bursting with blueberries topped with cinnamon sugar, everything fresh baked. A generous kabob of seasonal fruits and salted almonds rounds out morning or afternoon tea. '

My friend and I went on Friday to try it out. We split the plate of baked goodies and fruit and took advantage of this weekend's promotion of free coconut iced tea. Here is the gorgeous spread (my inner only-child admired the way that David cut the muffin and scone into perfectly halved pieces, it was so...fair):

The fruit was ripe and delicious, the scone and muffin were very fresh, and the jam tasted homemade in the best possible way. The patio was cute with umbrellas providing shade and a misting fan keeping us cool-ish. We stayed for an hour (or two?) and had a lovely time. Since the teas were free and we split the food plate, the whole thing was only $6.50! If we had paid for tea it would have been more like $10 and it would have been well worth it.

My husband's mom has an adjective she uses for things that are so well intended and beautiful that they deserve their own descriptive word, she calls them sincere. The Tea Bar is a sincere tea bar and I hope that throngs of people (three tables at a time of course) go and enjoy it and make it a resounding success.

We went for tea today and it was fabulous! Friendly, quiet, and delicious. We also bought a couple bags of loose tea to enjoy at home. We will definitely be back!

I love the tea bar! I've been there twice since it opened and it just keeps getting better!

I think "sincere" is a wonderful word for that very quality, like Linus and his pumpkin patch.

I'll have to include a baked goodie next time I'm by there; while the teas are more my thing, for me to arrive home with a fresh blueberry muffin to boot would win me serious points with the Mr. Thanks, Spring!

(maybe we'll have to go there for our upcoming cuppa something)

EXACTLY like Linus' sincere pumpkin patch, I couldn't quite remember from whence the phrase came, thank you for the memory jog.

You know, I didn't see an individual muffin option on their menu but David is so blinking nice I bet he'll come up with something.

Perhaps I'll see you there soon, it's a perfect spot to catch up.

Thank you Spring, and others, for your kind words!

The "menu" as it were, has much to be desired. It does not list the S.Pellegrino water that we offer, the Thai Iced Teas, or the fact that you can order À la carte. I also realized that I can make a nice little strawberry short cake with the scones, cream, and strawberrys.

I decided when we opened that when Jack Nicholson comes in and orders something that's not on the menu, I better be prepared to make it!

My partner and I tried the food and tea on my birthday yesterday morning. It was sublime. The iced tea was refreshing and the plate of food was delicious, all in a nice outdoor environment. We'll definitely be back!!
