We just got back from Jubilation Wine & spirits, and they have a whole new room! Lots of new sophisticated adult libations have been added (the lovely lower wine room is as yet the same) . . . and a whole wall of beer!

Jubilation is my shit, but seeing that most of the beers in the new case are typical beer (i.e. Bud, Corona) etc., I'm not too excited about the new wall. Yet that won't stop me from going by there today and grabbing a sixer of the Modus Hoperandi, which is one of my new faves.

We picked up, among other things, a six pack of raspberry cider. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but their cider selection is the best I've seen in town (Anybody know somewhere better?). Reminds me that I need to follow in Edith Grove's Footsteps and try the Tractor.

I am no expert either, but there was more than 2/3 the wall of smaller brewery offerings . . . . I don't know much about beer but I do know I hate large corporations.

Oh yes and my husband pointed out I did not get the coolers with doors (to the right). So take heart, they may well have the hoppy (ick) beer of your choice.

Well, I welcome the expansion, but why, oh WHY did they get rid of the cooler in which they kept white wine and sparkling wine/champagne? Please don't tell me "but they've got a wine cooler" because a) that thing doesn't really work all that well and b) most people want to grab a bottle of cold wine and go to their destination instead of hanging around waiting for their wine to get cooled down in the less-than effective wine cooler. So dumb to get rid of their wine refrigerator. SO dumb.

OBTS: There is a fridge with wine in the new room (To the left of the picture, but on the same floor). It had a selection of whites including some Luna Rosa Winery bottles (An old favorite based outside of Deming). Looking around it's pretty clear they've only half setup the new space and they seem to be rearranging the downstairs area as well. Hopefully they'll do as much for their wines as they've done for their beers. It would be great if they had a wider selection of pre-chilled options, especially local labels.

I like the new look and am all for expansion, but I've heard that in order to expand like this, Jubilation went in with the Maloofs... and in doing so, agreed to "dumb it down," so to speak.

Dumb'ing down beer? Diabolical.

In other beer talk, the blackberry wheat @ Chama River Brew Co. is pretty damn tasty.
