Instead of awarding the City of ABQ's Public Access TV contract to Quote...Unquote, who has held the contract for decades, the ABQ City Council will vote on Monday to irresponsibly hand over the contract to UPublic, a mouthpiece of conservative propaganda who has said that they will censor content.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 7, at 5:00pm at City Hall. There will be a Teach-in + Telethon tonight (May 3) from 5-7pm that can be seen on Ch. 27 or streamed online at quote-unquote.org
You can also follow this link (http://www.change.org/petitions/vote-yes-on-ec-12-67) to sign a petition urging the city councilors to renew Quote...Unquote's contract.
Comment by Crosley on May 7, 2012 at 9:31pm How funny, the UPublic guys are still around? I thought they would have packed up their dog-and-pony show and moved on to greener, more sucker-filled pastures by now. I had business dealings with them some years ago. Their "business model" has been through many iterations, each more fantastical and lucrative (for them) than the last, and this bid to take over the public access channel is just the latest one. My impression of them was that they were very slick talkers who were, as my grandpa used to say, all hat and no cattle. The impression was borne out by the way they proceeded in negotiations. We were thankfully able to pull the plug on our proposed deal with them before we got in too deep, and then my impression of their professionalism did not improve as I watched them deal with other people. The city needs to be very, very careful about getting in bed with that company. All is not as it seems there, I wish I had specifics I could offer without disclosing confidential information, but I don't.
