Self Serve is hiring- but we're having trouble letting people know! Censoring job listings in today's economy?

Foiled again!

I am just kinda in shock. Craigslist keeps flagging our job listing, and now ABQ Journal has rejected the brief classified ad we submitted. I am looking into it, but I continue to be shocked at the level of censorship we seem to find.

Craigslist has flagged and removed our ad at least a dozen times in less than a week. Yes, we are following all posting guidelines.

ABQ Journal just rejected a paid classified ad that barely alludes to what our Self Serve offers. Of course all of it is legal and wonderful.

I have talked to more than a dozen people this week alone who are losing their jobs, getting pay cuts and looking for work. Now our tiny, fun business is hiring for a retail position at a store that is zoned as non-adult, and even the job listing itself is being censored and removed from the most popular classified sites in Albuquerque.

I just continue to be surprised and dismayed by it.

But take note! It happens maybe once a year... Self Serve Sexuality Resource Center is hiring.
If you are open-minded, care about people enjoying healthy sexuality in life, want to teach people about sex, like retail customer service and want the sexiest employee discount in New Mexico- please send a cover letter and resume to

Here's the listing on our favorite blog site, DCF.

UPDATE: As of Wednesday afternoon, the Journal has agreed to a much more vague, censored ad that's thankfully NOT in the escort ad section! Lucky us :)

Oh dear, that is distressing! Out of curiousity, do you know whether other Craigslist users are flagging your ad, or is it Craigslist itself?

Self Serve is such a great local business (and an AIBA member I might add), and it's really unfortunate you're facing such a nonsensical hurdle here.

Thank you AIBA friend :)
We can't tell by the auto-email message if a user or staff took the post down. It is user-driven, so I believe if someone was anti-self serve they could just flag and remove. Sad, but true. Thanks for your support- Molly

Well screw the Journal and Craigslist. Just post on DCF from now on, you've obviously got at least 3-4 interested peeps from just this post.

IRONIC...they take ads for guns for sale. Guns ok, sexuality no no unless its TD's ad in the Sports section for all the teenage boys to see.

Anyone else see something wrong here?

Thanks, Mary! Yay for information sharing. We missed the deadline for this week's Alibi. They do in fact print most free -speech happy sex-positive stuff, so we love the Alibi. Some paid job sites are just too expensive and long term for a lil' business like Self Serve. Thanks for everyone's support! -Molly

Hey Molly-- what's up? I passed on your ad to some of my friends.

You've got to be kidding me. Craigslist banned you? The same website that allows people to advertise prostitution and stolen auto parts? Figures.
