For 15 years I have watched as US automakers produced larger, heavier, more dangerous, less fuel efficient cars and trucks (trucks and more trucks) for the grossly over indebted American buyer. Detroit has done everything in its power to forget the lessons of the 1970's oil crisis or have ANY sense of environmental responsibility. They were making money hand-over-fist on Pickup Trucks and SUV's for people who didn't need them and couldn't afford them. Now, they are all on the verge of bankruptcy because of this cultivated ignorance and greed.
What do I think about an auto industry "bailout" as it stands? I think NOT. And, yet, if there is any kind of bailout or loan program, in the interest of saving jobs and families in the midwest, it MUST be tied to investing in green energy re-tooling, electric cars, hybrid cars, super efficient cars, and research and development of alternative fuels.
I ask you who are so inclined, call or e-mail your New Mexico representative TODAY about the proposed bailout. Contact information is posted below. I thank you, the earth thanks you:
