For the last few months, someone has been putting cryptic messages on the old sign for the demolished Econolodge at Central and San Mateo. To me, they sound like musings overheard at the nearby Rapid Ride stop; or stealth marketing for some new project about to take shape on the empty property there. Has anyone else been reading them?

Awww, Jeff. For a second I thought you were about to announce a Jenny Holzer sighting in the Duke City.

There was an article today in the Albuquerque Journal about this. It turns out that the poetry is the collaboration of the slam poetry club at Highland High School and Friends of the Orphan Signs which was started by UNM professor Ellen Babcock. I am not an online subscriber to the Journal, otherwise I would have inserted a link to the article. If you are, check it out I think its awesome that she is giving students the opportunity to showcase their poetry through an unconventional venue.

Hooray! I hoped that by posting this here, someone who knew the story behind it (or who makes more time for reading the paper, ahem) would clue me in! Thanks, Alicia.

FotOS even have a website/blog: http://friendsoftheorphansigns.blogspot.com/
