The end of the drought

The lightning photo drought that is....

The Sandias opened up on Saturday so that means that there has been some rain here, some of which happened just as I was landing the other day.

But finally, on Sunday night I was able to get a series of shots from a storm that rolled over the Sandias and over Bear Creek Canyon.

This shot was taken after I moved the camera as the storm moved west.

Comment by hettie on July 25, 2011 at 12:10pm: we saw some of this from isotopes stadium last night and the crowd sounded more excited about the lightning show than about the isotopes 9 runs (probably because after 9 runs, we were still down by 8--it was a terrible game!). it was awesome to be part of a big crowd with everyone going "oooh! wow!" for these natural fireworks. great photos!

Comment by David on July 26, 2011 at 10:27am: I'd have to look them up to be sure - but I remember the first shots were taken at 1.5 sec f20 and iso of 200 because there was still a lot of ambient light. Camera Nikon D100 and iso200 is the lowest it will go. The slide show series was probably shot at 3 seconds and f20, ISO 200. As the evening progressed I know that I dialed up to 6 seconds, iso200, f13 as the storms moved farther away.
