The Sunday Poem: Julie Brokken... You Said, I Said

The sweet sadness of Julie Brokken "bubbles like cream soda slowly sipped" in a tall glass of poetry this morning.  Happy Mothers Day!

Julie Brokken works out of her White Butterfly Studio in downtown Albuquerque's Factory on 5th Art Space.

You Said, I Said

you said you enjoyed that
sweetness of
my way of
speaking with just a
dash of
sadness and the valley of
depth beyond it

I said I found sweetness in that
pressure of
pregnant air pressing
red flesh against
soul bones
swirring me into
that rich milky skin of
blue sky effuse with
downy bubbles like
creme soda slowly sipped as
sensuality begins to go
flat against its
own effervescent
bottom

I said I found sadness in that
spring song of
hope floating
down to where lays that
soft cheek of
high desert dust dancing with
cottonwood fluff
synchronizing with
soft dreams
floating in chaotic order yet
mindful of that
embodied moment when
an version of myself
woke inside
drought

I said I found depth in that
low white cloud of
cottonwood down caressing
sandy soils that
sing of
seeds sprouting with
angora light
reaching at once up and down
mindful of their purpose
as they bound their new bodies
inside both earth
and sky

Lovely poem Julie. Bet it's great spoken aloud, especially in your sweet way...

Nice penning Julie and I expect to hear it out loud soon (smiles).

Great imagery, Julie, and some tongue-and-mind-twisters here. Good one!

IGreat poetry, Julie. I've  liked both the offerings of your poetry that I've seen here. And I've always loved creme soda, flat or otherwise.
