July 10 MarCom + Tech Network-a-Palooza

Attention all communicators & techies: Flacks; web geeks; black turtleneck and Buddy Holly glasses-wearers (see! we're not so different!); C&J, CS, MIS, and MOT grads - and MORE!

It's the 4th Annual Albuquerque MarCom Mixer, a local network-a-thon featuring the members (and groupies or future members or never-will-be members) of:

AAF / New Mexico AdFed
Albuquerque Press Women
American Marketing Association
Association for Women in Communications
New Mexico Press Women
Public Relations Society of America
Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development
Society for Marketing Professional Services
Society for Technical Communication

PLUS, to add a little "Beauty and the Geek" frisson to the whole evening, our more technically inclined brethren and sistren from:

Micro & Nanotechnology Commercialization Education Foundation
Nano-Network of New Mexico
New Mexico Biotechnology & Biomedical Association
New Mexico Information Technology & Software Association
New Mexico Optics Industry Association

HOT! Don't miss it! You know, if any of these organizations seem like they do something like what you do.*

4th Annual MarCom Mixer
Thursday, July 10, 2008
5:30 – 8:30 pm
Albuquerque the Magazine Offices
1550 Mercantile Ave. NE, Top Floor, Jefferson & I-25, Above REI

$12 at door includes A FREE ATM magazine subscription, hors d’oeuvres, hosted bar and your chance to win some great door prizes!

*One time a bunch of male UNM professors from a totally unrelated field showed up and then went around bitching afterward about how they couldn't pick up. It's not about picking up hot advertising chicks! It's about getting your network on!

This event is always fun. And I know plenty of single women in unrelated/semi-related fields who attend this event as a way to meet geeks. Geeks actually pay attention when a woman talks!

I'm thinking about going - I'm in FringeNobHill (somehow that doesn't sound as nice as Fringecrest). Mostly I want to check out the ABQ Mag digs!

Well being a geek and a woman, that could be a plus right?

The one last year was a lot of fun. I'm planning on being there this year, the only question left to ask is, kilt or no kilt?
Edith Grove Comment by Edith Grove on July 3, 2008 at 2:42pm
Kilt. You don't even have to ask.

Wow, I wonder If I can manage to come out of my hole long enough to do some good old fashioned networking?
Kelly Comment by Kelly on July 3, 2008 at 4:30pm
C'mon, Kenny. There will be girls (or guys, whatever your preference)!

Perhaps the convergence of marketing/media and tech types will lead to more hook-ups, but I think the majority of organizations are looking for those connections to be professional in nature.

As to what's 'professional' in your industry...

So is this an event where a blogging bioethicist hooked on NBIC might be welcome?
