Japanese Kitchen is pretty much the Japanese cultural center of ABQ. They sponsor Obon. Go over there and talk to Keiko.

Midori Sushi on San Pedro and Montgomery- a little grocery next door is largely Japanese oriented (It's been while since I was there). Samurai on Gibson near San Pedro. Mr Sushi on Juan Tabo north of Eubank. It's tough going a mile without running near a sushi joint- most of the smaller ones are headed up by Japanese or Korean owners/chefs. For stores it's more pan-Asian out here than region specific. Ta Lin really brings that fact home.

Restaurants owned and operated by Japanese are Japanese Kitchen, Kokoro, Taka Sushi, Mirai Express.....

The last time I went to Kokoro on Menaul, I think every Japanese person in Albuquerque was in there. I don't know if the actual owner is Japanese, though.

steve - is Taka Sushi still open? Was recently dismayed to see lights out and doors locked during normal operating hours.

NMBosque- I had the same head slapping, jaw agape moment when I went to go grab a delicious and reasonably priced sushi lunch at Taka recently. I can't seem to find out what is going on (if anything). Anyone out there know what has happened to my favorite hole-in-the-wall sushi joint?

Kokoro rocks. They have natto. That is hopefully enough to spur a few visits by ya'll....
