Duke City Fix

Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

I want to have some fun with my fellow DCFers. I've decided to borrow a theme from Matt Lauer of the Today Show, - Where in the World is Matt Lauer? As the first in a a series of posts, I ask - "Where in 'Burque is Adelita?"

How many of us, while driving, biking, walking or riding the bus don't notice what is around us? Sometimes while stopped at a red light or briskly walking to my destination, I focus on the mundane; a license plate in front of me, ugly curtains in a window, the lyrics to a bad song.

But every now and then I snap out of my fog and focus on what is around me. I've decided that there are too many cool things in this city that we pass by every day that need to be studied, admired, appreciated, and frankly, just looked at. It's amazing what I have noticed within a one mile radius of my neighborhood!

My daughter and I have spent several days going to different parts of the city and walking all around. It has been so much fun! We were amazed at how many things we've passed by, but never really looked at. We took more than 100 pictures!

Here are 5 pictures of things you may never have noticed before. Let's see how many people can identify where they are. Some of them are obvious, others not so obvious. I wonder how many of you will say, " I know I've seen that, but i don't know where!"

OMG! Just this weekend I stopped to snap a photo of that old chimney on Candelaria just east of 12th. It's right near one of my favorite B&B's in Albuquerque.

Chantal and Diego - Yes on Candelaria just east of 12th Street. For years I've always wondered why they tore down the house but left the fireplace.

Masshole - Yup, the APS graveyard behind Milne Stadium

Diego - On Second St. next to the castle is Gertrude Zachary's antique shop with the gargoyles.

What a great idea for a post! I only wish I knew where any of these places are.

I'm too new to this city to know where any of those things are but...thanks for this post, Lita! I'll be sure to keep my eye out for these things next time we're out driving around!

Albuquerque has some fun and very different neighborhoods. I love the variety. (another huge selling point for those of us living where the freeways cut through the same old urban landscape where only the names of the cities change)
