Duke City Fix

Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

I went to see Cathryn McGill sing in Old Town last night. The performance was part of the New Mexico Jazz Festival. I first heard her on KUNM talking about the festival, and was interested enough to at least check out the free performance. I was really impressed by her talent. She sang a variety of songs, mostly in the R&B vein but some jazz and blues. I found several of her original compositions compelling, especially one she wrote for her mother "The Hand That Rocked My Cradle". She has a great voice. capable of powerful emotion.

During the break, Chuy Martinez from the city Cultural Services division talked about performance in Old Town. He said there is something happening there five nights a week (Wednesday-Sunday), but they don't have any money for advertising so we should tell our friends. Consider yourselves told.

Here is a link to Cultural Services, but it isn't really complete. You can probably find out what's going on at 311.

I have been to the gazebo several nights and always enjoy the entertainment. It is a little
sad to not have more people taking advantage of this free and family friendly city offering.
