It's been a crazy couple of months... Good, bad and ugly...
First, e is doing well:
A CT scan was taken on Monday, July 28, and a bone scan was taken Friday, July 26. Both indicate that the cancer is gone from the lung, and that the cancer on the liver is significantly smaller. The latest AFP level also came back as 15.4, which is considered "normal".
So, he just underwent his ninth course of treatment (again with the clinical trial that appears to have worked)--in an attempt to get rid of the last spot of cancer from his liver. Since significant surgeries have already been performed on the liver, it's possible that the spot could be scar tissue (according to the oncologist). But, we have to make sure... That means, he'll have one more round starting ~August 19. Then, we'll have a CT scan to again check on the appearance of cancer anywhere in his body.
Also, if some piece of the spot remains, the pediatric surgeon will likely go in and surgically remove the last remnant. e's oncologist indicated that it's possible that a live cancer cell could survive within a bit of scar tissue, and that the scar tissue could prevent the chemo from getting at the cancer. So, to be safe, the pediatric surgeon would remove it.
His labs from today show that his ANC is up to 5,000+ (he's recovering well this time from chemo).
Of course.... my car just died (I drove into a puddle that was a bit deeper than I'd thought; the water warped the cylinders), and the insurance totaled it...
And, my house still hasn't sold...
Life goes on.
