Where is a bar for "adults"?!?! 16 Replies

Ok, so I'm a 30-something and the idea of all of the downtown frat boy, hard music hang-outs don't appeal to me. I remember fondly Club Rhythm and Blues on the corner of Central and Carlisle. That ...

So I was laid off on Halloween. No big deal, get some unemployment and try to find another gig. The benefit pays my bills and a little food, but nothing else. So manage to get it all set up and hav...

Thank you Fixers

It was VERY nice to crawl out of bed today at 7 instead of my usual 4:30am. I grabbed a cup of coffee and listened to Albuquerque's Oldies station (1600 AM) over the web while answering several personal emails. Yesterday I officially became a temporary employee of the State of California. With a sad face my VP of Sales told the entire team that another round of cuts had been mandated by the board of directors and we were out. I had to remind myself not to smile too much until I eventually left t… Continue

Winter Day Trips & Sightseeing

When we found out our Argentinian guests were coming in the middle of January, images of last winter's massive snowstorm danced in our heads. We thought about board games and card games and what movies we could watch if we couldn't get out of the house for a week. Looking ahead at the… Continue

(Dear DCF Community, I am embarking upon a serial narrative, of my early days in Albuquerque- 1993-1995. This particular story will be continued in future posts, sporadically, as this story warrants additional details and conclusion in a future telling. Future tales may be more conc… Continue

Christmas in Barelas - Redux

I can see the smallest onion dome in Albuquerque from my house. It isn’t quite like seeing Russia, but given that this is New Mexico, it will have to suffice.

Layoffs at the Journal

See Susan's post below -- layoffs today at the Albuquerque Journal. As far as we know, these are the first substantial (Susan's reporting 10-20%) layoffs of the current recession at Albuquerque's only daily newspaper. Re-UPDATEd: I've just gotten an email saying that the layoffs may have spared the newsroom for now, but it ain't all over yet. Anyone got the poop? ANOTHER UPDATE: Maybe it was… Continue

4th Time's A Charm....right?

Irony and intuition are funny things and not funny in a HaHaHa sort of way. Over the weekend I had found the two boxes of crap that I had packed-up hastily when I was relocated last March at the Journal. I couldn't take 90% of the stuff to my new position because there would be no desk, only counter space. So the stuff apparently got tossed into my storage closet awaiting the day I'd love 'em again. So last night I found spots for the stuff, in other words most of it got tossed. And yesterday a… Continue
