"SANTA FE (AP) - New Mexicans earning up to $70,000 are in line for a tax rebate that will average about $87 under legislation signed into law by Governor Richardson"
Tax rebate? Uuuummmmm, I have paid taxes, yet will not get a "tax rebate".

It sounds like Mad Marty and the Guvna are up to their old tricks. When will they put public money towards something worthwhile...like building more roads on West Side? Downtown has a lot of crime. Anyone living outside of Nob Hill is a sprawl-head. Jennifer James is god. Bluegrass music.
There, now the rest of the commenters can take the morning off.
I think the tax rebate is a bad idea. As a lump sum that money could make a difference: as little bits going out to individuals it will buy a few groceries and a little gas.
And hey Mr Blue Jeans make glaring over generalizations much?

mombat, if you didn't get the joke, you're part of it :)
If you haven't yet read this past week's Alibi, you'll see that they have a whole story on local generalizations. My favorite? Maybe this one, from Marisa DeMarco:
Land of Entrapment
"This is the land of entrapment," cheeseball invaders say to one another. The phrase says to me that you think this place is second-rate, but somehow you got stuck here in Craptown and can't leave. Speaking of, those who bandy about the snobby "Entrapment" jest—and let's face it, it's an inside joke for outsiders—are likely not to turn off the faucet when brushing their teeth, because they like the sound and it was never a problem in Florida. Woe is you, without agency in your life or an ability to make decisions about where you want to live. If you don't like it, point your car at a "real city." Us that love Burque don't want to share our precious water with you anyway.
