EFP - I think the state should function as bookie, using the profit to make it possible, and then of course rigging the whole thing. It'd be beautiful

The Rail Runner will make it. The more entertaining bets will be the manner in which is does so!

I had Thanksgiving with a state employee in the right place (embarassing, but I've forgotten her name) who swears things are moving forward on the SF end.

Last week, various intersections were closed in Santa Fe for work on the Rail Runner.

EFP, it occurs to me that you *sound* like a DBA! There is a reason why the business rules get moved out of SQL ;-)

In a year or two when you come back to visit, will it be because you are hired to setup the inventory DB of all the flash-in-the-pan stuff?

luv and DAO,

If I hear anymore crap about what a drain the Railrunner is on transportation funds and how we shouldn't be subsidizing this project, I am going to scream. None of the naysayers will admit this one, basic fact: HIGHWAYS ARE SUBSIDIZED TRANSPORTATION. Yes. At least the Railrunner charges people to ride on it--when was the last time you had to pay to get on the freeway in NM, people?

I just don't get why people oppose public transportation.

While I was living in Florida an awesome high speed rail network was proposed and funding authorized in 2000. However, in 2004, the EFPers of the state voted to halt the funding and perpetually toss money at tolls for never ending highway construction. My girlfriend is from Orlando and she says there is literally highways that have been under construction since she was a child... in the exact same place.

The construction inflation numbers that were cited in the article are no joke and the trend looks like it will continue... in light of that information I think we should have multiple train options on the table.

Replies to 1/2 of you... & then some.
RR will go through as planned & will kick ass.
I can't wait to get to Santa Fe without having to drive.
I actually heard a rumor of toll booths on our highways. RR is way cheap to ride & available to everyone.
No road rage on a train.
No DUI.
Reduce your carbon footprint.

Also, rocks the retro-futurism. i can't wait to take the train to Santa Fe in Victorian apparel, perhaps have some tea with respectable chums.

I genuinely think the train is an awesome idea, and fully endorse multiple modes of transportation. Choice is good, isn't it?
