The election has started. Voting is underway. Thousands of New Mexicans are casting their ballots from the comfort of their own home - and you can too!

I'm writing this post to personally encourage you to vote by mail.

There are a lot of reasons to vote by mail. You can save yourself the headache of getting to the polling place and standing in a line on a busy Tuesday. You can vote from the comfort of your own home at a day and time that's convenient for you. You'll also help our campaign because once you vote, we won't have to spend our time and resources contacting you and reminding you to vote. That gives us the ability to contact other voters and get them out to the polls.

Ballots are being mailed out to New Mexicans right now. You can request your vote by mail ballot through October 30, 2008. But, don't wait. Visit our website and request your vote by mail application today. We'll send it to you with instructions and all you need to do is fill it out and mail it in to your county clerk. It's that easy. So, please, vote by mail today!

REQUEST YOUR VOTE BY MAIL APPLICATION!

You never know how busy you're going to be on Tuesday, November 4th. And, you might not have the time to stand in that line. So, escape the lines and vote by mail from the comfort of your own home.

But, it's not just your busy Tuesday that you'll save by voting by mail. Once you send in your vote by mail ballot, you won't be contacted by any more campaigns! So, if you don't want to receive all the calls and the mail, request your vote by mail ballot and when you get that ballot, vote immediately and mail it back.

Voting by mail is quick, easy and convenient. Take advantage of this special opportunity. Please, vote by mail today!

REQUEST YOUR VOTE BY MAIL APPLICATION!

Once you've requested your vote by mail application, tell your friends about it. Forward them this email and encourage them to visit MartinHeinrich.com and request their vote by mail ballot. Tell them that voting by mail is both convenient, easy and it helps our campaign!

Thanks so much for your time.

Well, I suppose that's a good idea, IF you trust your ballot won't get "lost" in the mail. I'll wait until early voting starts and go to the nearest voting site. BTW, you don't need to "spend (y)our time and resources contacting you me and reminding you me to vote". I haven't missed an election in....well, never I think. And, it's not like I was ever going to vote for anyone other than you, but it would have to be a cold day on the surface of the sun before I'd vote for a fascist anal orifice like Darren White. One more thing: I wouldn't mind hearing about all those lawsuites against him and the Sheriff's Department for violations of citizen's civil rights.

X3 What Rodney said! I most definitely do NOT trust the mail to get my vote in. I've had my mail lost way too many times here in Albuquerque to trust our mail service.

I voted today, and there was a line at 11:30, and there was a general sense of community, there was a visualy impaired man who requested help, received help and I felt really good about the process of voting early, among my fellow citizens. People are too detached from society as it is, including myself. This is a historical election, and I realize that some people can't make it to the polls, but stand up, go to the polls, fill out the little circle, get your "I voted sticker", and vacate the premises as parking is limited.

You can still vote by absentee ballot and physically drop off your ballot if you don't trust the mail service to get it back to the clerk's office. I prefer voting this way. It gives me time to look closely at all the candidates and proposals to make a more informed choice (you can check out the League of Women Voters Guide online for more information). For me, it's better than standing in line, feeling rushed and dealing with parking.

One more thing. I know the problem was only reported in one county in the state, but this election is just too critical to take any chances. I'm gonna be really non-partisan here and say - Regardless of your political affiliation, DO NOT VOTE STRAIGHT PARTY. As was reported in the Journal, in a test run in one county in northern New Mexico, straight party votes (filling in only the D or R circle) did not register votes for President or Senate. So, even if your being really stupid and voting straight republican, vote each race individually to ensure your votes are counted.

Starting 18 Oct. you can just go to the off-site early voting locations e.g., the UNM Student Union.
