Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

Since California is a blue state ran by do-gooder liberals who ban so-called "assault weapons", it's a little shocking to discover something where NM outdoes those dorks, but here it is: apparently Costco sells wine on Sundays starting at noon only (and that is considered an exception from the law banning Sunday sales period). Go go nanny state government, amaze the newcomers.

is this really headline material? the noon time limit is a little silly, but there is no costco exemption, they sell everywhere after noon. you are sort of begging to be told to go back to CA.

no alcohol sales before noon on sunday - costco's situation isn't an exception.
the law isn't nanny-state, it's religious-state.

Well, here in Albuquerque, it appears that the right wing religious nut conservatives are responsible for this law.

That's a law whose roots are in traditional Christian beliefs...not exactly a liberal safehouse.

I'm pretty sure the New Mexico Sunday Liquor sales ban was repealed in July 1995. Liquor of all sorts is now sold on Sundays in most parts of the state after 12:00 pm, that's my understanding.

At least the law in this state is less strict than those found in Kansas and Oklahoma, states which have consistently colored themselves red.

BTW, here are two fascinating links about research that followed that change in law..

Isn't possible to plan ahead and do your shopping on Saturday night, so you'll have plenty of booze available for Sunday morning?

NM abolished the law against Sunday liquor sales a long time ago. Just FYI.

Well, Pennsylvania only has state stores that sell liquor and not on Sunday. The stores have limited hours too, so you get it there or not at all. Wonder how many DWI's crop up in PA in a day compared to ours? I wouldn't call my PA town liberal - maybe that's the reason I left.

At least you can buy liquor... *sigh*
