Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

I'm puzzled that this was announced today (Tues, 10/14). The trail was open 10 days ago (or more) and was very convenient for getting to Balloon Fiesta. Why wasn't it announced before Fiesta?

Trail now goes from UNM to Alameda Written by Nancy Tipton for the ..., last updated Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at 12:01:43
An addition to Albuquerque's North Diversion Channel Trail
officially opened yesterday, extending the current trail from
Paseo del Norte north to Alameda and Balloon Fiesta Park.

The trail cost $1.2 million and is the first in a series of trail
upgrades near Menaul, Comanche, and Candelaria.
The trail was open last week to cyclists who wanted
easier access to the Balloon Fiesta.

The trail allows cyclists to go from UNM to the
Alameda area without ever being on a roadway.

Strictly speaking, that last sentence is wrong or misleading, in so far as the trail crosses 3 or 4 deadly roads. But the trail really is a joy.

I took this photo the first morning of Balloon Fiesta.

Uh,

On the 2nd of this month I made the following post on Duke Ctiy Fix: http://www.dukecityfix.com/group/burquebikers/forum/topic/show?id=1233957%3ATopic%3A197524
Good news! The underpass for the trail now goes beyond Paseo Del Norte along the North Diversion Channel! This will be helpful to open up safer access to the area for trail users!

An added bonus is now via the trail users can gain access to Alameda including closer access to the Balloon Park! Just in time for Balloon Fiesta!

Thought I would share!

It's cool that Phunque1 and Black is the New Black both wrote about this on the Fix -- you beat the MSM by more than a week. I still wonder what the Mayor was thinking waiting until after Fiesta. peace, mjh

maybe it wasn't announced 10 days ago because the trail was in beta testing. ;)

Oddly, when I rode to the balloon fiesta, there was still a "Trail Closed" sign at the entry off of Alameda. I sure hope they are planning to do this across Comanchie, Clandelaria and more importantly Menaul.

Is it kosher to copy/paste portions of an ABQ Journal article here without actually mentioning the ABQ Journal at all?

I've added a link in the post to the original item from the Albuquerque Journal website.
