Melt With You
I'm rocking out to the Eighties videos on VH1 Classic.

This is a great way for me to begin my morning.

I am totally and truly an 80s girl - I graduated high school at 16 in 1980 - and although I felt like I was robbed of the 60s - I did thoroughly enjoy live music in the 80s.

I saw U2 on their first US tour.
I saw the Pretenders on their first US tour.
I saw Big Country on their first US tour.
I saw the first US tour of the Police.
(with XTC opening - one of their few live performances before Andy Partridge succumbed to stage fright!)
I saw Elvis Costello play like 7 times in the early 80s, many with Nick Lowe opening.
I saw Joe Jackson on every tour he played in the 80s.
I missed the English Beat, and a record store friend got me a signed LP as a consolation.
I saw Dexy's Midnight Runners play live (remember the one-hit-wonder, "Come on Eileen")
I gave up my front-row tickets to Psychedelic Furs because I had something else to do.
I had the Split Enz album with the laser design on it.
I've met Cyndi Lauper.

Plus, this Modern English song is one I had on a 12" EP.

It shocked me into cynical adulthood when I heard a Hershey ad with this song.

What, no Cars? no Talking Heads? I'm just joshing, that's quite the list you have there.

Adelita- that's what i'm talking about! Your list supports that seldom spouted line of reasoning regarding what made 80's music so great for music fans- it was equally pre-punk-punk-post punk, plus there were legit metal acts, cheese factors from 0 to 10 (0 being Van Halen or Ozzy (Maybe?) and 10 being Triumph or Quiet Riot (Maybe?)) and pop (Thinking Michael Jackson before he went Jacko Wacko), new wave, proto-jazz (I'm thinking specifically of Joe Jackson here, but there were many more).

It was a boon for the ears. Don't get me started.

In the 80's I was totally into what I used to call 'roots music' - Blasters, Los Lobos, The Knitters, Dwight Yoakum, Los Lobos, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lone Justice, BoDeans, Stray Cats, etc. There was quite a wonderful music scene in Burque back then with great bands like the Broadway Elks, Mutts, and Strawberry Zots.

But I loved all the new wave stuff. Saw Cindy Lauper at the now demolished Civic Auditorium (used to be near Lomas and I-40)

I wasn't a fan of the hair bands, but it was great fun at the festival to see the madness of Ozzy and a very, very drunk David Lee Roth who kept forgetting the words to all the songs.

What's funny is that my 14 year old daughter is a huge fan of 80s music. She loves The Clash, Ramones, and Run DMC!!

That Knitters album is sorely underrated.

Karla, you obviously did not grow up in ABQ, no? We didn't get lots of great concerts here. Very few venues were available. I can think of the Cow Palace (Tingley), the Civic Center and occasionally the Pit or UNM stadium.
Were there any others?
I was big into R & B in the 80's. Hardly anyone major ever got to ABQ. I did see Kool and the Gang and the Gap Band here.

Love the BoDeans, Adelita. To this day.
My buddy Erin is in his mid twenties and borrows my Echo and the Bunnymen, Waterboys, Cure, Smiths etc. cd's.
