I'm hoping that everyone had a good Thanksgiving and is now somewhat recovered from all that turkey (or tofurkey, as the case may be). Or at least plans on being recovered by Sunday night, when
My Brightest Diamond plays at the Cooperage. And we have a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky and alert winner!
A bunch of bloggers have written about seeing My Brightest Diamond either on their own tours or opening up for the Decemberists, and this sounds like it's going to be an incredible show.
My Brightest Diamond
Special Guest: Clare & the Reasons
The Cooperage / 7220 Lomas Blvd NE
8 PM Concert (Doors open at 6:30 PM)
21 and over
Tickets $15 advance, $20 day of show.
My Brightest Diamond is spearheaded by Shara Worden, granddaughter of an Epiphone-playing traveling evangelist, fathered by a National Accordion Champion, and mothered by a classical organist. Influenced by artists such as Tricky, French composer Maurice Ravel and Tom Waits, in addition to the star exploration themes of Anslem Kiefer's paintings, the imaginary landscapes of photographer Robert ParkeHarrison, films by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and Alice in Wonderland, their latest album, A Thousand Shark's Teeth, is a musical snowglobe that sparkles each time you touch it. For this performance, the group will be joined by a string trio. Opening for My Brightest Diamond is Clare & the Reasons, whose swirling orchestral pop has been described as "old fashion cinematic love songs for a modern world."
To win the tickets: Can't have won anything in the last 30 days. Be the first to both place your answer in the comments section AND email me with your full name (which I'll leave at Will Call so you can get your tickets at the door). Winners to write a review blog after the show!
For the tickets: Shara Worden once performed with the Illinoisemakers. What was her role with the group?
A Thanksgiving thought to file away: Neal Copperman at APM Concerts continues to be a major giver in this community. When all those best-of lists get voted on, consider writing Neal in for best concerts or best promoter or what have you -- he's brought in some incredible shows this year, and deserves our thanks.
