NM DOT started work on I-40 between Pennsylvania and San Mateo this week and my daily commute will be an ugly mess for a few months. I love the freeway and drive I-40 and I-25 everyday to work but it is always a tough decision for me to get off the freeway during traffic jams or construction delays. I'm sure if traffic gets too backed up I'll get off and find another route but for now I'm going to stay on the freeway. I'm hoping everyone else will find an alternate route so I can have I-40 all to myself. I like to dream but really wish I could fly.

Will your route be affected by the construction and will you change your route during the next few months?

Give me the general to / from of your commute and I guarantee i'll have you blazing a surface street trail that works WAYYYY better than the freeway...

I stay on the freeway for better gas millage and I've taken almost every route possible but I'd like to see what you suggest.

Lomas&Eubank to Alameda&Jefferson
GO!

Eubank north to Montgomery west to Jefferson north to Alameda would be my choice. I'll bet you've tried that, but it has to be as good as the freeway (with the exception of the Jefferson approach to Paseo being slow...)

I've never used that route. Usually it is Lomas to Wyoming to Paseo to I-25 to Alameda. When Louisiana was torn up I took Lomas to San Mateo to I-40 to I-25 to Alameda.

The possiblities are endless but nothing compares to the freeway for good gas mileage (not to mention all those red light cameras you have to go through on the surface streets like Wyoming, Eubank and Montgomery).

How about Eubank north all the way to Alameda (actually it's Hamilton north of Paseo, but the same road), then west on Alameda... Lots and lots of lights and intersections going up Eubank from Lomas, not sure how they're timed; but north of Paseo it's mostly stop signs and not much traffic. I think your freeway route is best time-wise as long as the construction back-up isn't bad. (And what do I know, I'm a non driving bicyclist).

Donny Ozmund, not sure what map you are using, but in my book Eubank is Eubank all the way thru town and does not change names north of Paseo Del Authban.

what about trying to live closer to where you work?

Okay. From Lomas and Eubank, get on over to Constitution. Ride your bike down Constitution to Pennsylvania. Turn right onto Pennsylvania and take the bike trail on Pennsylvania north to the bike trail which intersects San Pedro just south of Commance. Turn left. Follow this bike trail to where it intersects with the North Diversion bike trail (I believe official name is Paseo del Nordeste trail) and take that bike trail north to the Journal Center bridge just north of Osuna. Turn right. Take trail to streets in industrial area, wind your way around and get to Jefferson. Go north to Alameda. Soon, however, you will be able to take the bike trail all the way north to Alameda, if you can't already.

Bet you'd be there faster on a bike whether there's road construction or not...

ABQ Suntran bus route 98 takes you directly (no transfers!) from Wyoming/Lomas to Alameda/Jefferson (but, bummer, it's a commuter that only runs in the early morning/ late afternoon). There's others, though - $2/day - read a book and let someone else drive

Bus and bike are very good suggestions but I think I like brendisimo suggestion best, "move closer to work".
