I had this idea awhile ago but I didn't really know why I wanted to do it until now. I'm fucking PISSED OFF about what is happening in my city, my state, this country, and our world. This is fucking rediculous people we need to wake up! We need to do something drastically different or else things are going to either stay the same or get worse. I do not see anyone who has the power to make major decisions who is coming up with any real ideas for change. The only people who want to drastically change things in a way that would do us some potential good get shouted down and labeled "crazy" or "too extreame".
Anyways, I'm biking to California this summer. You read that correctly I'm going to ride a bicycle from Albuquerque, NM to San Francisco, CA. I'm doing this because we need to realize that we do not have to be dependent on cars to get places. We could be a country of walkers, bikers, electric bus riders, train takers, and sailers. Instead when I drive down Central between San Pedro and Wyoming I see car dealer after car dealer with lots OVERFLOWING with brand spankin' new cars. Why do we need so many cars? WHY? Can anyone come up with a good reason other than laziness and convience? Are we going to kill ourselves because we were too lazy to take our fingers off of the trigger? Please tell me I'm not alone here.
I'm pissed because oil is at $120 a barrell and Pres. Bush says that the $300-$600 checks everyone (who filed for taxes) is getting should "help with the costs of rising gas prices.". HORSESHIT! If you really want to fight gas prices STOP BUYING IT. I'm not talking about those "one day boycott" kind of not buying it. I'm saying STOP FUCKING BUYING GASOLINE PERIOD. Ride a bike, take the bus find a job closer to where you live, work online, do something. I still drive on occasion, I am not without the sin of being lazy but I'm trying to change. I need to change. WE NEED TO CHANGE.
If anyone wants to start a bicycle club, or if you are insane and want to join me on my journey to San Francisco and back please email me.
Thanks for reading.

Bush says rebates going out Monday will boos the economy
***update*** I really was not expecting so many people to read this. I'm used to writing on my normal blog where there is literally one reader, my friend Phil. So thanks to everyone It's been a lot of fun reading your comments. Here is a really thought provoking article that deals with this issue:
Living in a post-oil society. Thanks again, it's awesome to find out on my second post what an active community this is. You guys are all really great!
Bicycling from Albuquerque to San Francisco and back you say? I must not have read that correctly; sounds like something out of a Jules Verne novel. Watch out in SW Utah, I hear THERE BE DRAGONS THERE!
What do you do for a living? Must not involve hauling anything around. Have children? Grocery shop for more than one person? Travel on airplanes? Use plastics? Buy anything transported by truck or train (including your bicycle)? You get the idea.
Guess I'll start hauling around lumber on my Schwinn. Gonna need a bigger basket.
