Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

I love local artists and I love Etsy ('Etsy is an online marketplace for buying & selling all things handmade') so here comes a new series of posts...each Monday I'll feature a different Albuquerque artist/craftsperson who sells on Etsy. We have a lot of Etsy sellers right here on DCF and I'll try to hunt them all down to feature each one, but first up...beetnik 505.

This is my favorite snippet from beetnik505's profile on Etsy:

'Creating makes me feel content, fulfilled and useful. I love to give my creations as gifts as well as to use and enjoy them myself. My Etsy shop is an extension of my desire to share my creativity with a wider audience. It is also the result of the continued pressure from my daughters to, "really sell some of the stuff you make, Mom; it's so cool." The turning point, which leads to actually opening this shop, was the day my husband came up behind me and said, “When are you going to stop shopping (on Etsy) and start selling?!” Here I am.'

And here are some of the items for sale in beetnik505's store:

Canary Wood Hairsticks

Recycled Paper Vessel

Olive Green Figured Maple Pen

Cinnamon Colored Serving Set

Disc-o Madness Recycled Art

Thanks for the post suggestion, Chantal.

Great choice!! I like beetnik505's work. Nice mix of functional and ornamental, and--unlike a lot of work I've seen on Etsy--the handmade part is more substantial than the machine made. That's including the lathe as part of the handmade. It seems like a lot of stuff on Etsy is a little bit of handmade stuck on something mostly mass-produced.

Yay!
Love Etsy, and love Albuquerque artists' involvement on Etsy even more! I am mad for handmade pins/brooches, and other kitschy, wearable art, and would totally shop on a local gal's/guy's Etsy site if they had quirky Querque offerings that artistically describe how great it is to live here-- wearable art or otherwise. Tasteful, SW Chic (?), boutique-y kinds of goods.
Oh, and beetnik505's pieces are really rockin'!
Can't wait to see future posts like this one, Spring Griffin...

Excellent post idea! I adore Etsy and drool almost daily. I love the idea of seeing what is coming out of Abq.

Never seen Etsy's work, but I drool almost daily as well.........

hmm, sounds like we both have a personal problem.... I'm thinking this doesn't bode well for Etsy. "Etsy, induces drooling!"
