I pretty much reopen this question at this time each year, since I always seem to get some sort of ghastly cold/sinus/nastiness thing right about now.
I know in my heart of hearts that Chinese hot & sour soup is my best bet at dark times like these, but have yet to find a good (read: effective) one here in the Duke City.
I've been making due with Thai and Vietnamese substitutes. Not the same.
Does anyone have a line on a fierce H&S for a girl in desperate shape?
My two favor Hot & Sour soups are at Chopstix (NW corner of the shopping center on the NW corner of Lomas & San Pedro w/ a Hastings & a Smith's) and Hua Chang (5333 4th St NW, a couple of blocks south of Montano on the west side of the street).
But I haven't used Hot & Sour soup as a cure - but I can appreciate that aspect, so I can't comment on their potency, but both have a very nice kick. My preference for a cold cure is a chicken stock based green chile tortilla soup w/ rice & lime. Rice to cut the heat of the chile so I can get it hotter.
I haven't been there in a while, but Four Joys on 4th, north of Montano (across from the Albertson's) has a great H&S. Again, I haven't been there in a while, but they use to have some great food and soups!
