Did anybody catch In Plain Sight on USA on Sunday night?

It's filmed and set here in Albuquerque. It's a pretty standard cop type show. Not my usual thing, but it was interesting seeing how they are using Albuquerque. Lots of it is filmed downtown.

I actually saw Bobby Foster fight to a draw in the "PIT" against some guy from Argentina

My friend sent me the link to the Hulu video of the pilot. When the opening shot was of the NY Pizza Department sign, and then the title card "Staten Island" came up, I knew I'd never be able to take the show seriously.

Just because something is filmed here doesn't make it good. In Plain Sight was huge disappointment: lame, wooden, predictable—but with great locations, I mean really great locations. What really rubbed me wrong was the portrayal of the “ethnic” characters. You know, you’d think something shot here, with all the available consultants on local culture could have come up with some realistic characterizations of Hispanic and Native American people. I was appalled. It was actually painful to watch the 1950s-type caricatures. First there was the silly scene of Native men on a ridge , ominously watching the examination of a crime scene. (1950s Cowboys & Indians getting ready to attack the wagon train of settlers homage?) Except instead of horse they are on four-wheelers and dirt bikes. Cap that with ridiculous dialog clichés like “What’s with the silent sentinels?” and the ludicrous response: “The developers took their land.” Of course the murderer turns out to be the son of an erudite Native man named “TallTrees” (How many Native people around here are named TallTrees? Jeez, get real.) who has such memorable lines as, “I will get a white man’s lawyer!” And hey, ese, the portrayal of McCormick’s Hispanic love interest and friends—eee es muy appalling.

The real is so much more rich and interesting than the stereotype. One thing it would be good for is a "watch and mock."

lmao I read in the paper that they shot NY Pizza Department downtown and called it NY, NY! And that we're really supposed to be representative of Philly. I wonder if any of the Philidelphians are sitting there going, "Where is that?"

I liked the show alright, although it did seem a bit "scatterbrained" at times. I thought the actors were interesting, though they do need to work a bit on how they portray them. As Flaca said, they may be over their unsureness of the characters within the next few episodes or so. As for the portrayal of the "ethnic" characters, it was appalling, to say the least. They definitely could have done a better job with that.

I thought that the show was pretty cheesy. The "ethnic" characters were very stereotypical. The NY Pizza Department representing Staten Island was hilarious! And the federal witnesses arrived on the Rail Runner. Where were they coming from? Up north in Bernalillo!
That being said, I will TiVo the show since it was filmed here. The lead actress was charming but boy, do they need to work on the plot and dialogue!

anyone know where they filmed the episode 1 double-murder construction site scene (is there a dirt place on Jefferson well to the north? I've only driven paved Jefferson road) or where they filmed the Talltrees kid arrest (it looks like the house is up against the sandia foothills overlooking the city - a house in Sandia Heights?)

the show is ok, I just like looking at the Albuquerque area locations and trying to figure out where they were shot.

I have to say that the second episode was better than the first, but not by much. I love looking at the scenery and picking out 'Burque spots, but the characters need more development. I'll watch a few more episodes to see if it gets any better.

I think it's a pretty amusing crime/cop show, in the same vein as the old Rockford Files or Columbo series. I take it with a grain of salt and I seem to enjoy it more. I don't try to take it too seriously, after all it's not supposed to be completely serious - and I like it for its entertainment value.

I really like all the scenery in the ABQ area - it makes me miss New Mexico. So I've been recording it on my DVR from RCN. It temporarily cures my need for an ABQ fix.

I'm with you James, I get my Albuquerque fix watching it. Some days I just want to sit back, be entertained and not have to think. If it's the only way I get ABQ I'll take it.

For those of you who saw the last episode...was there an African diamond dealer in it (the 'main' bad guy?) My husband played that role and I think it airs next Sunday, but now am not entirely sure we didn't miss it! Thanks.

Hi Vashti - no African diamond dealers in this one. I'll be watching next week looking for your hubby.
