Did anybody catch In Plain Sight on USA on Sunday night?
It's filmed and set here in Albuquerque. It's a pretty standard cop type show. Not my usual thing, but it was interesting seeing how they are using Albuquerque. Lots of it is filmed downtown.
In my opinion, Breaking Bad is by far the higher quality and more genuine of the two ABQ filmed and set shows...although they are different genres. For the most part I thought Breaking Bad featured a very natural version of Albuquerque, showing both the good and the bad that could potentially exist in this city.
I thought BB also did a nice job of getting a lot of the little details right as well: the drug dealer in the basement being a business graduate from UNM (as opposed to NMU or something), his family owning a furniture store on Menaul (as opposed to some random imaginary street), the wife shopping for expensive jewelry at Gertrude Zachary and even the family drinking a few Santa Fe Pale Ale's at their BBQ.
I always enjoy seeing how the city is used in various scenes in both shows however. It's pretty interesting!
For people like myself who just aren't willing to pay for cable, you can watch full episodes of In Plain Sight on the USA Network web site. They're available the day after it airs. The actors seem to be getting more comfortable with their roles so it's becoming interesting to watch beyond the "Hey, isn't that at such and so location" factor.
Like Brandon, I don't do cable. There's a cool website (mentioned earlier in this post) called Hulu.com where you can see all the episodes of this show.
There are lots of TV shows and movies that you can watch for free. The other night I watched the "Turkeys Away" episode of "WKRP In Cincinnati".
Because it's adapted from a book and El Paso is where that scene happened. I did think it was really weird to see the Desert Sands sign with that little "El Paso" addtion.
Just talked with one of the guys working on the Duke City Shootout about this -- he worked on the shoot out in Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh?!) with Viggo, Robert Duvall, Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce.
Said it was going to be good, but dark. Good dark.
