Il Vicino has good salads. Both the insalata il vacino & pescatore are my favorites.

I agree. Il Vicino is the best salad in town: a good price, good amount of food and free bread to boot!

Make your own at Whole Foods. Scarpa has nice salads as does Flying Star.

Last night I went to flying star. It was really good- nearly exactly what I was looking for. However, some of these suggestions sound awesome. Keep them coming!

Oh, and what about salad dressing recipes?? My fav: in a sauce pan heat balsamic vin. until thick (till the tang taste is burnt away) then shake up with olive oil, s&p and shallots. YUM.

This probably isn't practical unless you want to take your whole family, but I LOVE the chopped antipasto salad at Buca di Beppo

I'm not sure why it's so good. I'm not too into salads. That place is mostly "family style" with huge portions.

The Greek Goddess salad at Flying Star is really good, but way overpriced at 10 bucks, IMO.

I suppose by now you've already eaten, anyway!

La Fonda at the National Hispanic Cultural Center does fantastic big Salads. Had a Fiesta Salad there last week, freshly grilled chicken, jicama, deliciousio! I think it was about $8.00

Cafe Viola in the Journal Center shopping center off Jefferson makes some of the best salads around. Last week I had Salade Perigourdine a duck breast salad that was amazing and a meal for 2 for less than $15. But that is one of many wonderful salads they offer. And they have a fabulous patio on the beautiful & peaceful landscaped arroyo in the Journal Center.

I have also heard raves from fellow diners about the Salad Nicose at Le Crepe Pierre at the corner of Candelaria & San Pedro.

Sorry this advice is too late to satisfy your salad fix, but then Cafe Voila is closed on Sunday and Le Crepe Pierre is only open for brunch.

I recently ate at Cafe Voila for the first time and everything was delicous and fresh. Here are 2 salads that sound vegetarian from Cafe Voila's online menu:

BLUE CHEESE CRUMBLE, WALNUTS, APPLE, CELERY, CROUTONS, CREAMY CITRUS VINAIGRETTE BERGERE $ 10.95;
GOAT CHEESE TOAST, SAUTEED POTATOES, ONIONS, TOMATOES, HOUSE VINAIGRETTE NICOISE $ 13.95

This is a topic I can sink my teeth info. (And I already have!)

Of course the salad diversity in town keeps growing. Here's my "short" list:

Il Vicino's Insalata (their rendition of Cobb, essentially), is wonderful
Relish Chop Chop
My own massive salad pile I make at Souper Salad. Hey, it's seven bucks! :-P
Viagra salad at some of sushi joints - but not all (Samurai on Gibson is pretty good)
Blackbird Buvette: blackberry/walnut/feta salad, WITH grilled salmon added. It is absolutely wonderful, but a shocking $13 after adding the protein. Still...
Scarpa's Ala Arancia (meatless, but still good)
Tucano's - salad bar!
Chama River - Tenderloin Cobb Salad (lunch)
Cafe Dalat - Lime Beef appetizer
Thai Orchid - Yam Nuea (sliced steak salad)

Mmmm, I'm getting hungry again.
