Apartments

Hi everyone, I am moving to Albuquerque from out of state in the beginning of August. I have only been to Alb. one time but got a general idea of the different areas. I am trying to make arrangements to get a place prior to actually moving so we'll have a place to move right into when we get there. So it is tough because we won't actually get to see the place when we choose it. I'm looking for a two bedroom home or apartment to rent.

I have found some options in areas close enough to where we need to be and was wondering if any of you could tell me what you think of these places. Are they good, do they have a good or bad reputation? Is the neighborhood ok? Have a bug problem? Just anything you can possibly tell me about any of these, I would greatly appriciate.

Mountain Run on Eubank Boulevard, NE

The Silverado on Osuna Road, NE by San Mateo

La Mirage on Academy Road

The Villas at La Privada on San Mateo, NE

Oak Tree Park on Osuna/San Mateo

The Aspens on Eagle Ranch Road, NW

The River Walk/ La Paz on Calle Cuervo, NW
(was this where there was a murder+suicide on Ellison back in May? I remember while I was visiting that incident was on the news and occured at an apt complex by Ellison, but maybe it was a different complex, I don't know).

Also any thoughts on San Miguel Del Bosque on Coors, NW.? This place seems to offer more sq. footage at a little cheaper place.

Or are there any places you might recommend?

Sorry if this is annoying, I don't mean to be. I know I mentioned a lot of places... I don't know any locals and would really appriciate anything you can tell me.

Thank you so much!! :)

You should also check out The Pavilions on Academy & Lowell. I've lived there for the last year and it's great. They have 1,2 &3 bedroom floorplans. Check it out!

Thanks for posting this link. Even though I already have a place to live, it was fun to look up my past apartment complexes. Many of the reviews are right-on. I think this could be a very helpful resource for the OP.

I lived in Oak Tree Park for about two years. Although no longer my type of residence (I prefer mid-century or older with character), it was very nice and had no problems while living there. It was very quiet. I do suggest that if you can, you not get an apartment near the office, just because there's more activity with people in and out, etc.. It's pretty well situated within the city and I-25 is close (but not too close). We looked at the apartments right next door- the Villas at La Privada, but liked OTP a lot better. If you have any more specific questions, feel free to message me.

If you're looking for a quiet place with 3-12 month leases, also look at Mesa Del Oso. We lived in one of their quiet and comfortable 2 bedrooms while renovating our house before moving in. Lots of light, private backyards, garages and reasonable prices. Seems like we were the youngest people there by decades.

I don't know anyone who has lived in San Miguel del Bosque, but it has very good freeway access and is 5 minute walk from the river and a field maintained by the Open Space Division as a wildlife area.

I take that you aren't looking for a specific area of ABQ (to be close to UNM, or work, or what have you)?

ok, then, here's my $.02:

Mountain Run: Nice neighborhood. Right across from Academy Hills Park.

The Silverado: Avoid this area... San Mateo and Osuna is not such a great place.

La Mirage: Very nice neighborhood. Probably the best out of all of the places you listed. However, these apartments (on Academy Rd.) are usually far away from the freeway (if thats important to you)

The Villas at La Privada: Avoid, just because it is on San Mateo

Oak Tree Park: Again, avoid.

The Aspens: Never heard of it... if it's on the west side, it's probably cheaper and with the recent renovation of the Coors and I-40 interchange, you should be able to get to where you want to go quickly.

The River Walk/ La Paz on Calle Cuervo: Don't know if there was a murder or suicide here. wouldn't be surprised if there were. Welcome to ABQ!

San Miguel Del Bosque on Coors: Never heard of it.

There is nothing wrong with San Mateo and Osuna. It is a bit commercial, but backs up to one of the nicest neighborhoods in Albuquerque. The apartments are set back from San Mateo- I never heard any traffic while I lived there. It was one of the quietest places I've ever lived in ABQ.

I lived at The Aspens for my first six months in ABQ about 4 years ago. It was nice, the apartments were huge, it had an awesome pool and a basketball court. It was a bit pricey for that area, but you get what you pay for. However, my wife and I didn't really like living there because the area is surrounded by car dealers and really close to the mall/big box area of the West Side. But the worst thing was my commute. I work on the East Side and crossing the bridge became increasingly hard. There are only a couple ways to get across the river, and this probably won't change anytime soon. I took Paseo Del Norte, which would basically stop if there was an accident blocking one lane, which happened approximately 3 times a week. OK, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it seemed to happen all the time. If you work on the West Side, that doesn't really matter.

I lived at La Privada twice. The first time I lived in a two bedroom with ample parking, great neighbors and had no complaints. About 13 months later, I returned to La Privada (it was under new management at this point) and had just about the completely opposite experience. Someone threw up outside my door and the apartment never cleaned it up, despite repeated requests, my neighbors were loud (think partying at 4 am on a Sunday), and I rarely found parking near my apartment.

There was a shooting recently at Riverwalk. Instead of Riverwalk on Calle Cuervo, I HIGHLY recommend Camino Real next door. They have great specials- so don't be fooled by posted high prices. You usually just have to go in to get the specials. They seem to attract a slightly less rough element than Riverwalk sometimes does. The apartments are huge! I had the smallest model and I think it was over 700sqft. The other nice thing there is that you'd be walking distance from Sunflower Market and a Flying Star. The only reason I left Camino Real was because I bought a house- and sometimes I miss my old apartment.

Sunshine,
You seem to have a grouping in what could loosely be called "Uptown"-- the San Mateo/Osuna area. That is a bit of a commercial area, but many things are available close to that intersection. You also have some wildcards in the far NE and NW-- be advised, many posts to DCF have a strong *bias* against anything not within 10 blocks of UNM. I'm in the area of the Aspens, not a renter but nearby. The commute is always interesting and the area is the newest, cleanest, *nicest* part of town for my money.
