Old Blimpie / Burger King Site on Central near UNM

Anybody know what's going in there?
Lots of construction going on.

Don't know if this is true, a construction worker told my co-worker that a Starbucks and a few other places were going in...

I love me a vanilla latte, but damn, these Starbucks are gettin' to be a little much.

in time? in time to save the grand-fathered in drive up zoning variance? I know that's why they let the Salvation army use the drive up for free last Xmas(or was it 2 years ago?) apparently if it goes unused too long they loose the zoning for it and its gone forever..

ugh. winnings is still my pick.

Yeah, Winnings kicks butt as far as UNM-area coffee is concerned. I'm sort of amused that the new Harvard streetscape appears to be using Winnings's storefront as their explicit model.

Arrrgh, another Starbuck's? Well, I guess it's no surprise...UNM was due for another one. I wouldn't be sorry to see the drive-up (or the huge parking lot) go away, though. That could be prime space for something a touch more urban and pedestrian friendly.

starf***ks?!? noooo.... well, I suppose anything is better than the empty building, but only just. (I wish the city and developers would pay more attention to the strip of central that runs from yale to university. there's potential there. when the baskin robbins was replaced by a check cashing place, that corner of buena vista and central lost a lot of its appeal.) drive up corporate coffee, huh? well, at least it's not another national burger chain. sigh.

I thought I was the only one who referred to them as, well, what you said! ha! ha!

I really hope it will be a Starbucker, because I told a captive audience (it wondered out loud) in the 66 bus it was going to be one. Lots of smiles!

I used to eat at that Blimpie once or twice a week, so I'm sort of disappointed that they're replacing it with even more coffee.

I live within earshot of the construction (they are even working Saturdays!)- it's definitely a Starbucks with a drive through. It's kind of a shame they didn't make more efficient use of the space. It would have been nice to see a small trendy strip mall or some more food options (because you can't get enough in the UNM area). However, the outside looks pretty nice and it's definitely going to be better than the shady Salvation Army which never really had a presence there- I still think it was a front. The blimpie, etc.. were pretty run down- this is a definite improvement to the neighborhood even if there are already several Starbucks and other coffee shops in the vicinity. What's with the zoning? Can someone elaborate? At the rate they are working they should have no problem getting this done by Feb.
