I am trying to get in touch with the people who own Tinketown USA in Madrid. I would like to start my own backyard garden with some of the sculpture's or art installations.
I feel like some how someone should keep the spirit of that museum alive.
Uhh, a visit to their easily googled Web site indicates that they are currently open. Also, it's located in Sandia Park, quite some distance from Madrid.
Are you thinking about Tinkertown, or Tiny Town? Neither one is in Madrid, but Tiny Town is just down the hill in Cerrillos, a lot closer to Madrid than Tinkertown is. Tiny Town also sounds a lot more like what you're talking about...it's definitely more of an "art installation" than Tinkertown is.
I agree it's art, just not self-consciously or pretentiously so. Ross Ward always seemed to see himself and his work as part of a long tradition of folky roadside attractions and traveling craftsmen, not the world of fancy galleries.
Tinkertown is owned by Carla Ward, the wife of the late Ross Ward who carved and built all of the western town that is Tinkertown. He was also a prolific artist who worked in drawings as well. Tinkertown is indeed in Sandia Park, not Madrid, take north 14 to 314 (?), go left up towards Sandia Peak and you can't miss it, its on the left side of the road.
Ughh!!! You are all right. I meant tiny town. Just outside of Madrid. I always did get those two confused and now I really feel like I blew it. so any leads on getting in touch with the Tiny Town People. Sorry about the confusion,
