The Pupuseria on Bridge SW is finally opening a second pupuseria !! They have leased and are fitting out the white and blue building on the corner of San Mateo and Gibson, by the VA Hospital Entrance.
Is the East side ready for friend plaintains, pupusa de loroco and banana wrapped tamales?
Well, I stopped by last night since they are now open until 7pm. I arrived with a friend at 6:30pm. They guy seemed put out that we were there. He was not real friendly although we tried to be. We ordered three pupusas, boiled yucca, and drinks. We were the only ones in the restaurant. We took a seat. About 10 minutes our food was ready. But, it was wrapped up to go. We did not ask for to go. So, overall, I felt extremely unwelcome. Not sure I'll go back. Too bad, the food was pretty good, if not a bit greasy.
I didn't realize that this is directly beneath the Chevy on a Stick! We went a little after lunchtime on Tuesday. We had 3 different pupas (frijole, callabacitas and pollo) and the fried plantains. They were all delicious, but these were my first pupas ever so I don't have anything to compare them to. The service was friendly, the place was clean. There was a young lady taking our order, a young man who looked to be in charge, and someone's abuela wiping down the tables. The young lady did a nice job of explaining what pupas are and that traditionally they are finger food - tear a piece off, dip in the sauce and then sprinkle the pink cabbage(?) on top. I very much enjoyed the experience.
We were the only customers, although someone was leaving when we arrived. Overall I'd give it a 3-1/2 out of five stars.
Oh man! I can walk there from my house... and ROLL home. This will be like the 10th restaurant in that space in the last few years. Hope this one stays.
I would also welcome that back! God, I haven't had Mac's in years. Some fried, bad for you, but oh so delicious, food! Mmmmm
Which reminds me- it's almost Fair time!
