Duke City Fix

Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

I've managed to distract myself from an around-the-city tour of Albuquerque's sushi joints (which I've quite enjoyed, actually) and am now on a search for really great Indian.

I went to Taj Mahal last night. Delish. Where should I go next?

Rasoi (WARNING: Jhoom Barabar Jhoom website alert)!

Maybe we should start an all-out Indian food war because I have yet to understand why Taj Mahal wins all those "Best of" awards. I swear, those were Chef Boyardee meatballs being passed off as kofta the other day.

I bet Rasoi shoots up in the "best of" category next round.. Ever notice how people's favorite restaurants tend to be near where they live? Taj Mahal used to be the closest Indian restaurant where the bulk of the Alibi's readership lives (blatant speculation on my part).

I have never been impressed with Rasoi's food. It seems to take forever (even when you're alone in the restaurant) and the staff always seems distracted.

I've been meaning to try Rasoi. I am going to go next week!

Try it for breakfast! They open at 7:30 on weekdays to feed hungry UNM students with a limited menu. Beware the mango pickle.

i've only been during the day (and really just because we live a couple of blocks away) but does anyone know if the a la carte dinners are better than the buffet, and how much better? that lunch buffet features flavor profiles that are just wrong and too much meat....

we had dinner at india palace up in santa fe about a month ago....sooooooooo good.

I don't do the buffet, and pretty much order the same thing every time, which is something they seem to do well at TM. I'm up in Santa Fe today and will have to go to India Palace tonight for sure!

I've gotta second Rasoi. We've had fantastic carry-out from there a couple of times, although I hear that dining in can be a leisurely experience. My second choice would be India Palace here in Abq.

India Kitchen (Montgomery and, I think, Louisiana?) gets my vote.

I tend to think that India Kitchen is the best, Like the others Rasoi, India palace, even Taj.

i just wish it was closer to where i live.

Although to win much on charm Rasoi needs to learn to step up the service speed a little bit , i find its often 10-15 minutes before they come by to ask you for your drinks, and another 5-10 before they come back to take your order. Im ok if it takes a while in the kitchen, but lonng waits to order are a tad anoying.

I'm a sucker for Indian food. In addition to other's suggestions, be sure to visit the following (not in any particular order)

1. Taj Palace on Eubank next to Le Paris- From the India Palace lineage. I wish they'd distinguish themselves by offering some french fusion dishes. If you lived near Taj Palace, you would eat there 5 times a week and be fat as a pig. Glad I'm not nearby.

2. India Palace on the west side with the sunflower market and ichiban japanese- from the people who used to be the India Palace on Wyoming. When they were the east side restaurant, my wife and I would go there once a week at least so I try to go there whenever we're on that side of the river.

3. India Kitchen (dinner only!), Taj Mahal, Rasoi, and whatever the dude at Indopak might be selling.

While in Santa Fe, also try India House on Cerrillos. Good stuff.
