Duke City Fix

Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

I've managed to distract myself from an around-the-city tour of Albuquerque's sushi joints (which I've quite enjoyed, actually) and am now on a search for really great Indian.

I went to Taj Mahal last night. Delish. Where should I go next?

Sorry for the delay...I hadn't been home to check and I wanted to make sure I got it right. As I think you may have already discovered, the Indian Cooking book doesn't have any paneer recipes (I could've sworn it did but it's far from the first time I've been wrong...).

It does have a number of really tasty meat/poultry recipes (lamb w/ onions, chicken w/ red pepper sauce and chicken w/ tomatoes & garam masala are probably my favorites), the biryani is time-consuming but better than most/all that I've had in restaurants and the masoor dal (red lentils w/ cumin) is a wintertime staple for me.

The soups at Rasoi are amazing, especially the tomato.

As an Indian, I think it is my duty to tell you about my favorite Indian place. Although we cook Indian food at home all the time, sometimes it's nice to be catered to and enjoy those complicated dishes that you just don't cook at home. Hence, my favorite Indian restaurant is India Palace on Wyoming and Montgomery. I especially love their lunch buffets!

India Palace is good. Their lamb dal is wonderful, which is always the first dish I order at a new Indian place. If you can't handle lamb and lentils, why go further?

I think the lunch buffet at the Taj Mahal is a great bargain and it has everything I love to eat. I try to limit myself in going there since I tend to over-eat when I am there. I love going there on Sunday's (but not every Sunday) with my friends. Great service too.

India Kitchen gets my vote, too. For what its worth.

There are two Taj's in town. Taj Mahal and Taj Palace (Taj Palace is newer, haven't tried it yet). Taj Mahal uses too much butter for my taste, too rich. I've been told traditional Indian food isn't that rich. I really enjoy Rasoi's lunch buffet. I like the spices they use and the naan is great. They offer different items each day. Although I've been told for dinner you have to pay extra if you want rice?!

I'm now craving Indian food and it's only 8:45 in the morning. I'm interested in trying these new places I hadn't heard of until now--thanks everyone!
