If you still need a trainer, I don't know of any personally but the Animal Humane may be able to recommend someone to you or help you with behavioral tips with their hotline. The number is 505-938-7900 and for more information you can visit http://ahanm.org/. Scroll down, it's the second topic on the main page. Hope that helps!
I've taken my puppy to petsmart...and we have an amazing trainer. KC, at the Montano/I-25 location. She's been wonderful, I would highly recommend her classes!
I'd recommend the Canine Country Club. They have a nice puppy class that our shyest dog really took to. Later, Dexter the Boy Genius graduated to the "tricks" classes where they learn all kinds of non-obedience things.
The classes are in a nice space (the ones in pet stores seem really loud and distracting), sometimes even outside in a quiet area behind the Country Club. Great place and great teachers. I highly recommend them.
I just wanted to add my two cents about Acoma. We took our puppy to training classes there and were pretty disappointed. It was among the most inexpensive training facilities I had found, and I guess you get what you pay for, as the old saying goes. They have an anti-socialization policy (puppies are not allowed to interact with each other), with which I did not agree, and the class was too large (it seems like we had at least 20 puppies in ours -- probably more). We actually stopped attending after the fourth class. I wouldn't waste your money there.
Sage graduated from puppy class with some good skills and is now attending big-girl classes at the Kanine Kollege with Evi Fox. Strict, but effective training at this place. Thanks again for everyone's feedback! Keep the comments coming!
