Service Interruption due to the Special Event "Nob Hill Stroll" - Again

Ok, I went through the last "stroll" experiment and I was left with the impression that things would be better the next time.

Besides the problems with parking, traffic, and heat; the lack of bus service for the residents was a killer. All three routes are discontinued from Girrard to San Mateo yet again with no substitute stops.

I just checked the ABQRIDE web page. At least there is a mention of the "service interuption", however this is the same problem from the last time. Though there is supposed to be some sort of shuttle along the route, I guess NOT provided by ABQRIDE since it is not mentioned ... residents are left clueless again. ABQRIDE signage did not help any the last time.

The service interuption extends for about 1.5 miles. For elderly residents, handicapped residents, and others with difficulty walking for any reason ( small children for one ) I find it unacceptable to totally eliminate regular bus service instead of providing temporary stops along the route change. What if someone's destination is other than the activities in NobHill or they need to take the 766 to the Mall or Albertson's or just the 66 locally?

Again the focus of the organizers are to provide parking for vehicular traffic with out regard to the impact on the local residents who use or are dependant on transit.

I made a comment on today's Morning Fix as well.

Its clear you don't like the idea of Shop & Stroll and feel like its fueled by greed, obviously we disagree on this and at this point I'll say no more.

But this constant insinuation that we are somehow bribing the Mayor is rediculous. The specific answer to your question is that we we have donated NO money to the Mayor or any political party or organization, by our own by-laws and federal tax laws we are not allowed to, period. In addition to that, the NHBA opperates on a total budget of slightly over $10,000 a year, almost all of which comes from membership fees, working at Popejoy, I'm sure you have a passing understanding of what it cost to mount an event, any event, and I hope you can recognize that $10k is a shoestring budget.

Now I'm off to unload and set up one of the PAs for live music today.

I hope the music is loud.
I think we should have these every weekend or once a month- like real cities! Even places smaller than Albuquerque have this sort of thing regularly.

That's something totally different. Have you ever been to a street fair? It's in the street in the hip area where all the cool restaurants & shops are. I don't want to argue, it's not my event. Argue with Duane haha. I'm just saying.
The Civic Plaza goings on are cool but that is not the same type of thing.

Major streets? You mean like Park Avenue in New York City? They closed it through most of Manhattan, 3 times this August, for exactly the same reasons they're trying this in Nob Hill.

or musicians and organizers volunteer their time and energy, as well as equipment, etc.

I wonder why you seem to have picked shop and stroll as the target of your (frequently poorly spelled) vitriol? you don't live in nob hill, so you don't have legitimate complaints about traffic and parking in your neighborhood. the buses run regularly around the area being closed off and, as someone else posted recently, drivers are sensitive to the needs of their riders. no one's forcing you to attend shop and stroll or visit the neighborhood in any way. so why all the hate?

You might try Mozilla Firefox. It has a built in spell checker that will underline misspelled words while you're typing and suggest the correct spelling. I'm a terrible speller, but it usually does the job.

It was built, coincidentally, by a community of free software developers. Some of them do it for profit, but everybody can use it for free and wins.
If you are so concerned about the finances of our organization and feel that there is still improper activity taking place, I would be glad to go over the books with you - that is the nature of non-profits. Additionally
The perpetual complaint about using "your tax dollars," for something you don't agree with -- forget it - you work at a university theatre facility, the sheer existence of which is heavily subsidized by primarily state and federal tax dollars, I'm sure there are many many many folks around who wish they got to vote on each and every show thats booked into there, in fact I'm sure there are plenty who think a theatre facility itself is a waste of "their tax dollars" I have a keen understanding of theatre finance as I taught technical theatre at a university for years, and dealt with the administration of the budget. I'm pretty sure that those who support your endvour and passion in life through the theatre must have enough disposable income to afford Spamalot tickets. At that, good for them!! - they are putting money into what they appreciate, providing you and many others with the ability to be viably employed in the arts, and also contribute the sense of a vibrant community.

As far as gas savings go, Central is not, and hasn't been for a long time the fastest or most fuel efficient route east and west, unless you ignore traffic signals and the posted speed limits - Lead / Coal and Lomas are both more efficient. A few block reroute twice in three weeks is not a major inconvenience.

I have no more inclination to endless explain what is clear and upfront and have my words and efforts twisted into some sort of endless conspiracy. Negativity begets negativity and you can run with it by yourself at this point.
Ummmmm... ... I made it completely clear that the buses were running repeatedly over the past days, if you can't read the text of discussions here that clearly answer your questions and worries, and if you can't take the time to call 311 to ask these questions and can't read the signs posted at the stop, then I don't think that there is anything that could help.
flaca, there has been lots of information on the site about the buses that would be running today. with the amount of time you spend on here, I'm astounded that you missed it.

as far as commenting on people's spelling, posters are on this site to communicate with others. one of the keys to effective communication is being clear and easily understood by your audience. this doesn't just mean spelling adequately (we all suffer the occasional typo), it also means presenting your ideas in a succinct, well-organized way. for instance, by not rambling on continuously in a random style about topics which might be unrelated to the original post. randy's posts might not be spell checked, but he's generally brief in saying what he has to say and he stays on topic. we all understand that not everyone has the time to reread their comments before posting, but taking a moment to do so in order to ensure that you're communicating clearly is one way of showing respect for the people you're communicating with.
Just a little reminder that for the people who work in Nob Hill, it is also inconvenient for them! And they are doing it for the greater good. There are always bound to be improvements, but let's look at people's intentions, rather than assuming them.

Randy: Why are you being so relentlessly ugly about this event? Do you also think DCF is just resume fodder for Chantal? Communities are what people make of them- and you're dirtying two at the same time.

Went to the Shop & Stroll today: the crowds were a little thin, perhaps given the HOT weather and the huge blocked-off area, but it was fun, and a lot of people were out enjoying the experience. The music was indeed loud, several farmers-market booths and street performers were on the scene, and a lot of businesses that are normally closed on Sundays stayed open, and restaurants and bars like Geckos and Scalo looked to be doing a bracing business. Same goes for the Co-op. It seemed like most folks who made the trip were quite pleased to be there.

And hey, guess what? There were indeed substitute stops...the Rapid Ride stopped at the police substation at Central and Girard and San Mateo and Central, and somewhere else in between too. Elsewhere, the 66 and 766 skirted Nob Hill: down Monte Vista to Lomas and then along Lomas to San Mateo. There was also a very regular shuttle bus service that took folks through the Central crowds from the Central/Girard stop all the way through to the R.R. stop at San Mateo.

So it was fun, and didn't seem like much of a imposition at all for either attendees or commuters. In this case, methinks the original poster and some of the other folks on this thread doth indeed protest too much. In some cases way, way too much.
