Duke City Fix

Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

Well, i'll start by saying that i've been here for two weeks to study at UNM. so far, i am in love with this place. i am 19 and I am single...

anyway, the reason I ask "low-key" is... well, I grew up in West Texas... if you're familiar with the area, then you know that it's not the most "gay-friendly" place on the planet. :)

so, are there any really small, kind of less club-like places where I could just go and "be seen", as in, coffee shops, bookstores, et cetera? I mean, places that aren't necessarily "gay," but places that have a typically gay following. Saturday was my first time at the grower's market; it was amazing and I couldn't believe how different it was from what I was used to. I even saw a real, live gay couple! (insert hysterical gasp)

i am just afraid that, being a "small towner" and going into a club or something could reveal me as the lame-o that I am. Hehe.

Most places around UNM are good to be "seen" in. I would say just hang around Frontier, Satellite Coffee, Winnings, and even just around on campus and your bound to "be seen" by someone. Haha.

I'll definitely second the Winnings suggestion. Best coffee in town and people there tend to be, by my estimate, about 10-20% more attractive than the general population.

Hey Mr. Jones! You might want to try Flying Star. There are several around town and they seem to be rather friendly toward the gay community. I'll second Jackson's recommendation of Satellite Coffee too.
