I was suprised that Obama chose Biden as his running mate.
I am even more suprised by McCain's choice Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska.
I can't decide if it is brilliant or crazy or both.
I would be interested to know what other people, especially McCain suppporters, think about this.

I am excited. It will be interesting to watch. Don't like McCain, don't like Obama, don't like Biden. I do like Palin. She seem smart and accomplished. She seems like she makes intelligent decisions for her state. She has huge approval ratings in Alaska. I still don't know who I am going to vote for, but I don't care about "inexperience" Yonger and fresh, well, that isn't a bad thing. You can still be talented without serving years upon years in government. Basically, the race just got interesting for me. Can't wait to learn more.

Not a McCain supporter, but I wanted to hop in here anyway. She's anti-choice and pro-intelligent design being taught in classrooms. Talk about leaving unwanted children behind.

BTW, did anybody else notice McCain playing with his ring finger when he introduced Palin? That was some mighty interesting body language.

Disappointed that Obama didn't go with Hillary for VP. Also sorry that Kucinich isn't capable of getting on a ticket, but that's pretty far from the original question.

Not an Obama supporter, but thought I'd hop in here too.

Palin is anti-abortion (except in extreme, common-sense cases) and I don't know about her stance on evolution, but I know she's a Christian. Sounds GREAT to me!!!!

By the way, just because someone is a Christian doesn't mean that they are anti-evolution. I believe that God created the universe, but I also happen to believe he did it through something similar to today's evolutionary theory.

she's said she wants to "teach the controversy", much like bush said when talking about ID.
unfortunately, there is no 'controversy' regarding the basic science of evolution and natural selection.
unless of course, she's a creationist pandering to ignorant christians or is herself ignorant on the science.

Going into the DNC...I was still on the fence.....

Well, it seems that McCain has gone and found someone with even less experience than Barack Obama. The Governor of Alaska? For just two years? The population of the Albuquerque/ Rio Rancho area is higher than that of Alaska. Her prior experience? Well....she was mayor of a TOWN that had fewer than 6,000 people. In reading about her, there are a few things that do interest me. Her talent in the Miss America pageant was to play the flute! LOVE the flute.....that's awesome.....She also loves her guns, and doesnt feel that women should have the right to make a choice. On top of that she is not only against gay marraige...but is also against benefits for gay partners...but luckily for us she "has many gay friends" (according to the Anchorage Daily News)....

I am sorry......but McCain's first big move as the candidate for the GOP is laughable at best.

I think you got that backwards... Still looking into details/

In effect, her veto granted State of Alaska benefits to same-sex couples. The veto occurred after Palin consulted with Alaska's attorney general on the constitutionality of the legislation.

She did, however, veto legislation passed by the state legislature in 2006 that would have prohibited providing DP benefits to state workers, in defiance of the Alaska Supreme Court’s ruling. She did this after the Supreme Court had already ruled and the Attorney General (Republican) advised her that the legislation was unconstitutional. Palin went on to state that, as a matter of policy, she was in favor of the bill.

So basically, she vetoed it because it wasn't constitutional, not because she wanted to grant benefits.

Patrick Sammon, leader of the same-sex loving Log Cabin Republicans, released the following statement about Sarah Palin, who John McCain's picked as his running mate:

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin can help Sen. McCain win this election by appealing to independent and young voters. She’s a mainstream Republican who will unite the Party and serve John McCain well as Vice President. Gov. Palin is an inclusive Republican who will help Sen. McCain appeal to gay and lesbian voters.

The Cabinites' website also directs viewers to 365Gay's report on the veep selection. Why? Because of this specific line: "Palin has a scant record on LGBT rights but is considered a moderate."

Geez, Pat Buchanan has had a boner all day because of Palin - she supported him in his run for president because George W was too moderate!. And she does take a very strong anti-abortion stance, even in the instance of rape or incest. I absolutely don't want creationism taught in the public school system that I help fund with my tax dollars.

What really bothers me is that John McCain only met her twice before his decision was made. I have one very important reason to vote Democrat - the supreme court.

And to everyone that has commented on this thread - nice to read responsible, thoughtful responses on both sides. Let's continue to keep it civil!

Actually, D., Palin was for the "bridge to nowhere". I saw it on tape this afternoon. She said that she would support anything that helped Alaska's infrastructure.
OOPS!
The main problem (for the GOP) with the Palin choice is that she is unvetted. It was a Hail Mary pass. McCain is desperate and it's showing. They couldn't fill the venue in Dayton today so they bussed in "supporters". He and Palin have only met 2x. He has no idea where she stands on issues. There are going to be plenty of things coming out in the next few weeks as the media digs into the Palin story. She sounds like an interesting woman. Someone to share moose recipes with.
But vice-presidential material? Not having it.

Scary, huh, Adelita?
The right-wing pundits are saying that she is a good debater. Great! Now, if she only had some ideas on the major issues.
Biden will chew her up and spit her out in the debates. If she is such a tough cookie, she won't mind.
