Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

So this post got me thinking. Who are the most important people in ABQ's art world?

Oooh, yes, Ann's a good one.

Who else?

Pretty soon it may be the manager of the Kinkade store, but that's not what you mean, I guess :)

I send every visitor and aficionado to Regina Held/Matrix/New Grounds and I hope that'll contribute to her importance.

Ayax, thank you so much for mentioning New Grounds, Matrix Fine Art, and me (Regina) in your comment. I appreciate it! I would like to steer this conversation from "hair" back to "art," if that's okay with everybody. If you interpret "powerful" as people who are hardworking visionaries, then I would like to mention Jen and Liz from Mariposa Gallery, Kurt Nelson from Palette, and Page Coleman from Coleman Gallery. This list is not complete by far. All of these gallery owners have supported emerging local artists for many years.

If you interpret "powerful" as "important" then I think of Albuquerque artists who made headlines locally and nationally. For starters, check out AABA's celebration of "Local Treasures," going on during the month of September. Here is a link, http://www.artscrwlaby.org/html/local-treasure.html.

And, of course, there are always those "powerful" ones behind the scenes who are tirelessly promoting the arts of Albuqurque, such as the Collector's Guide team, Cricket Appel from the Arts Alliance, or Joan Fenicle, the underpaid and overworked secretray of the AABA. Joan made sure that Delta Sky Magazine, in its current 40 +page profile on Albuquerque, mentioned the arts in additon to our golf courses and casinos. For a link to the Delta article, go to our Matrix blog!

oh mi gato... love me some Joel-Peter Witkin! Anyone know if he ever makes appearances? I've been a Witkin fan for years and years. I'd love to see that long silvery hair in the flesh.

long silvery hair? you've got the wrong witken. he leads a pretty normal life. i've seen him at church a lot and the movies here and there. used to be pretty common to find signed copies of his monographs at local bookstores.

well the book I have has a picture of him with wavy silver stallion hair on the back cover. it could be really old though.

What? I've know Joel-Peter for probably 20 years and he's never had long silvery hair.
