Ok, I know someone is going to criticize me for the spelling of biscochito, but this is how I spell it! My favorite biscochito is made by my aunt, but I'm trying to find a place where I can buy some tasty ones in town. Any suggestions? The only place I know of is Golden Crown Panaderia.
It was actually a Deborah Madison concoction at the first incarnation of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum Cafe, of all places. Then the guy who was running the place (I think Deborah's cousin?) kinda lost it and they turned management over to someone else. The cafe is really, really good, but that cookie is no longer there. Sigh.
I was equally shocked when I first moved here years ago. My co-workers waxed on to me about the mythical bisochito but couldn't point me to a place to get good ones.
They explained that this is a baked item that is tradtionally made by the family for the family (and friends) rather than purchased. They were (and are) very disdainful of store bought ones...
Without my own secret New Mexican grandma to make them for me I've had to "settle" for Golden Crown's too... Poor me (this is all sarcasm of course, I love Golden Crown's baked goods).
Some of the New Mexican restaurants around town sell them at the counter...this is true for Barelas Coffee House, all the Garcia's locations, Duran Central Pharmacy(?), and probably a lot of other places as well. You can also get big, locally-made containers of them in the bakery section at Costco or most big groceries, and many tourist gift shops in Old Town or at the airport also sell them.

I think there is this liitle New Mexican restaurant downtown that sells them near the PNM building and the new anasazi lofts, I cant remember the name but its in a thin narrow old adobe building.

I do know a better place, I'm quite proud of my mom's , she makes a recipe passed down to her from her aunt, and always gets compliments, Let me know if you would like to try em. Here's a description. Flaky and light, tasty and addicting.
