sunscreen

Does anyone have a favorite sunscreen that doesn't cause you to break out and doesn't leave a white film on your face? I need something that's at least SPF30.

Of course! I like the sunscreens for babies' bottoms -- Coppertone has an SPF 50 that I use all the time. I have to rub it in a little bit to get rid of the film, but it works great. Also check out this post, written by a local dermatologist:

Reflections on life and light
A very special guestblogger post from Dr. Barrett J. Zlotoff and Dr. Michael Contreras, Assistant Professors at the UNM Department of Dermatology. Read it, my friends, and then slather on the sunscreen. There's a list of good ones at the end.

I also use Coppertone Sport (30 or 50 SPF, can't remember which). I have used it the past four summers during summer field work in central NM grasslands. I put it on in the morning and again around early afternoon (because you sweat out the first application after a while) and it works great. Only slightly greasy, no white film (but you do need to rub it in), and does not cause me any skin problems. I have oily and sensitive skin and never had any breakout or other issues with this sunscreen.

I third this one! I use it when I know I'm going to be outdoors for more than 20 min. I also like kiss my face "cell mate 15." it's only spf15, but it's part of my routine every morning and then, even if I space out the heavy duty stuff before walking or riding around my day, I'm protected. are you looking for an everyday sunscreen or something specifically for outdoor activities? if it's just for everyday, you might like purpose spf 30 (made by johnson&johnson). it's great for easily irritated skin, is more like a moisturizer than a lotion, but isn't sweat/waterproof.

I use baby Blanket Faces 45+ SPF. It's white cream in a tube and who knows where I bought it. Probably found it in a Sale bin at Walgreen's.
Can't beat Sophies baby bottom cheeks, though.

I like Block Up Sport 45 with aloe vera by Fruit of the Earth. It's not greasy and it goes on easily. Moisturizes while it protects. Sweat resistant too.

I really like Banana Boat Sport Performance in SPF 30. It doesn't make me break out, is unscented, easy to rub in, and I use it on my face and other sun exposed bits every day.

Kinesys is a spray on (not aerosol) sunscreen that works great and doesn't make you feel like you're wearing toothpaste. You can get it at most sports stores.

You may want to cross-reference some of the suggestions with this handy database:

I just hate the idea of spreading known carcinogens all over me when I'm trying to prevent skin cancer.
