Next meeting of the Loma Linda Community Garden will be held at Loma Linda Community Center 1700 Yale SE on Sunday May 18th at 12:00. We are adding six community plots (12'X12') that will be ready to plant in a couple of weeks. Your friend can drop into the center during the week if they have questions.
You may drop in anytime you would like. We don't have near enough community members working but we hope to have more when we get others to take plots. The plots are free in exchange for the promise to donate hours. It is not very impressive right now, we have had some rototilling problems that I finally worked out today. The plots should be tilled, composted and bunny fenced within two weeks. We also hope to get some half wiskey barrels to use for raised ADA or I Just Can't Bend Over Anymore garden areas. The Children's Garden was planted this week and you can take a look at it. Go into the entrance to the community center drive just to the back of the building and look to the south. I'm pretty sure that Project Share has theirs up and running but I just haven't had time to go look this year.
And they reduced the price - but I'm not sure by how much - we paid $35 for a 85 x 2 foot row (plus an additional $25 for the second row), and that included free mulch and water. So it's even cheaper now....
I've been thinking of starting a community garden near UNM and would interested in learning if anyone has successfully created one from an empty lot. Are there liability issues involved?
