I saw the signs that said no bus service yesterday, but it was a shock to discover that today the buses are on a Sunday Schedule. Did I miss something, or did they forget to tell us?
There was no formal advertising of this... I was aware because I had been asking individual bus drivers ahead of time; the ABQ Ride website actually said there would be no service at all on either Thanksgiving or the Friday after (today), but that was appparently a notice left over from last year or some previous year. Hope you made it to work or your appointment on time regardless...

I had no idea this was happening. ABQ Ride did put this up on their website, but it's not very obvious. It seems like ABQ Ride has been pretty lazy about putting up news and updates on their site.
And has anyone gotten ABQ Ride's email newsletter lately? I signed up for it back in July, and so far I've only gotten the July newsletter. I thought it was supposed to come every month.
Driving today (don't tell my friends!) I actually picked up someone who was waiting at a stop early this morning. She looked half frozen to death, so I drove her from San Mateo to UNM. She hadn't heard anything about it until a minute before I showed up.
ABQ Ride generally does a good job of press releases. Why they missed this one I don't know. If you subscribe to their e-mails (at the bottom of the Transit page they often keep you apprised of special announcements and route changes.
In the end, I drove as well, and took the other person at my bus stop with me. And I complained to 311. ABQ Ride has to start getting used to the idea that their future lies in people who choose to ride the bus. They need to be considerably more user friendly. Let's all work on helping them get this...
I don't remember any signs about being on a Sunday schedule. I was headed to work at the VA...made it down Central to San Mateo in good time and then stood in the snow and froze out there on San Mateo until I gave up and decided it would be better to work from home, something I would have definitely done had I realized they were running on a Sunday schedule.
I rode the bus to work, which was by accident running on what seemed like a normal schedule, only to find out when I checked the web site while at work that, because of the Sunday schedule I would be unable to ride the bus home. Being something of a rookie bus rider, I blamed myself, because it was clear that had I looked at the web site before I started, I would have been able to tell. Specifically:
In the left-hand rail on their main web page is a link for "holidays," and the top of the "holidays" page said the Friday service would be on a Sunday schedule. It was pretty easy to figure out once I took the time to look. But it also seemed like the regulars on the bus already knew.
So how to regular bus riders without web access get this sort of basic, functional information?

Yeas, they should post them on that division driver-bus.
In the past, I remember local news reminding us about post office closings, bus operation and banks open yes or no. They stopped doing that?
The Journal ran the information in Thursday morning's paper - full listing of closures and schedules for banks, government, etc., including ABQRide. Apparently not a very effective place for it, given that none of us seem to have read it - including me, and I work at the Journal. :-)
