Karen Keese

2 Telescope Observing Ops in ABQ - Friday, May 16

These events are weather permitting.

1) Explora Adult Night from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. Theme is "Playful Invention." Telescopes on the 2nd floor west deck from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. It's a big moon night, so we'll be crater hopping at high magnification. Adults only, 18 and over. Admission is $7 adults, $5 seniors. They have live music, plus light food & drink.

Explora's phone number is 224-8323. Website is http://www.explora.us.

2) UNM Campus Observatory from 8:00 to 10:00 pm. This is the last night of the season, after which they're closed until the fall semester starts. Located on Yale Blvd, a couple blocks north of Lomas, at the top of a small hill, on the west side of Yale. Just look for the building with the dome on top. Free parking in big lot on north side of building. Telescopes will be set up in the courtyard and parking lot, and the observatory--which houses a 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope--will be open. Admission: FREE.

Telescopes for both events provided by members of The Albuquerque Astronomical Society (www.taas.org). Campus Observatory staffed courtesy of UNM Physics & Astronomy Department.

NEWSFLASH! Not sure what the weather is going to do on Friday night, but regardless, the UNM Campus Observatory will NOT be open. They decided to forego the last night because of finals.
