Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

Where are you from originally, and what brought you to New Mexico?

I'm originally from Northern Indiana. I came to New Mexico via brief stints in Florida and Mississippi, after four years in Italy, and two years of purgatory in Lincoln, Nebraska. I came here to attend UNM and graduated with a BA in English. After finishing my MFA out of state, I moved back because I love it here.

Hi Sleepless:

I'm originally from Cleveland, Ohio... went to Hiram College in Hiram, OH where I earned a BA in English Lit. (spent a Quarter studying in Cambridge, England); I moved with my wife-to-be to Dayton, Ohio and lived there for 11 years, got married & had 2 daughters; "wife" simultaneously moved to Albuquerque with the kids and filed for divorce; the court allowed her to stay moved with the kids and I was "forced" to move out here to try to be part of the kids lives (still, standard custody/visitation is just not fair to the man, at least not to THIS man)...
I am loving the weather here and enjoying exploring the surrounding area (Sandia Peak, Tent Rocks, Bandelier, Santa Fe on occasions like Zozobra, soon I'll check out 4th of July Canyon); I've met a lot of cool people too. So I'm a reluctant transplant who turned out to like it here, but wish I were in different personal circumstances.

Hi Donny,

Sorry to hear about the less than ideal personal circumstances, but glad you're liking it here. Where is the 4th of July Canyon?

4th of July Canyon is south of the East Mountains; I-40 east to N.M. 337 south to N.M. 55 into Tajique; then Forest Road 55 from Tajique goes through the 4th of July Canyon; it's reported to have a wide variety of maples, oaks and box elder trees that provide a great autumn leaf color show. Starting right now (mid September) and going through mid October is when the changing occurs. It sounds like a taste of the northeast here in the southwest!

I spent some of my childhood in northern Indiana--on a farm outside Ft. Wayne. Most recently, though, I moved from Bozeman, MT. Before that I went to school in Tempe, AZ. Before that, Boston, Tucson...other places.

I live here now because my in-laws do and we wanted to be closer to family (mine is in Tucson).

I'm excited to be here!

I'm from SE Kansas. I moved out here for a major change and, having visited a lot, I knew I liked Albuquerque, the area and people. I have been here for 4 months now. Have been seeing a really great guy for about a month, but have yet to make many new friends. Anyone else a recent transplant with few friends? Would love to find some new people to do things around the city with! Give me a shout if you're interested. :)
