What I like to do at the fair has really changed since I was about 7. I like to look at the animlas, especially goats and the 4-H barn, look at the art and crafts and then get ice cream from the dairy barn.
I agree with Kitson Pygmy goats are wonderful
Tom Thumb doughnuts... and the Sheephearder's cafe for lamb burgers. It is not as good as the old Sheephearders Cafe near UNM back in the day, but it is as close I can get once a year!
(in no particular order)
Navajo Tacos, oven bread and feast day cookies in the Native American village
model trains
the agriculture building
the 4-H barn and the animal buildings
donuts and a green chile cheeseburger from the foot court near the midway
pie from the Asbury pie booth
the hobby contest displays, especially the models and dioramas
the Native American arts building
...or really pretty much anything else except the Midway.

We went back to the Fair last year after a long, long absence (neither my husband or I had been since we were kids). The highlights for us, and our son:
- Tom Thumb donuts of course
- The Fine Arts building - we found a great piece of glass art by a local artist for $100
- Our son loved the chickens, the goats, and the McDonald's farm.
- Visiting the Planned Parenthood and NARAL booths to show our support for their good work
- And of course, the FOOD! We were lucky enough to go on a beautiful day and there was nothing like sitting in the fall sun eating roasted corn and green chile cheeseburgers. :)
